I am organizing a fly fishing vs pinning tournament to put this all to rest.  Who would be interested?

Do style points count?  I ask because I'm a stylish motherf%&*#er.

Will you be the guy in the pink waders?

Maybe.

Better than being the guy in crocs.

ha no style points dont count.  it will be flies only, volume of fish caught in 4 hour time period between center pin or fly rod.  Im down if everyone else is.

If style counts for nothing, then there is no point in a fly vs. pin contest.

I'm out.

well then we can do it by inches then.  I thought the great debate was that the pin outdoes the fly rod in any situation, thats what I want to put to the test.

That'd work, yes.

Fish volume is length X girth X pi Divided by 27.

You put them in a 55 gallon drum of crude and see how much oil they displace. Then you pour the oil in the creek when you're done.

Here is my question and let me say I'm on no side here, I've been a fly guy for some time now and have no experience with pin fishing but we both relay on a good drift to catch fish right, Thats what it's all about, Correct me if I'm wrong on that. Why is it that all pin fishing guys that I've seen over the years has to fish in the middle of the hole so no one else can fish, Cant you get a grift from the side or is that the way you have to fish those rods, I never understood that or is it the guy's that I've seen did not know what the are doing. Thanks

Tight lines and happy days

because pin fishing is reserved for bigger water, not ditches like in Erie.

the debate has been

"if you are a pinner, does that inherently make you a ****bag?"

personally I couldn't care less which tech will catch more fish

i will be interested in being involved in such a tournament.  additionally, i will even be willing to give a fly fisherman, such as this tournament's generous founder, a head start, say for every foot of fish we each catch i'll take half the points.

PXA,

I have always heard that is a great area. Sure looks like it from the highway. Shumaker has asked me to come down and fish there a few times, but for some reason I haven't. I'm 1/2 mile from the West Branch around Williamsport. We are having the same issue up here. No wading, but it has been great for boats.

I find it baffling why adults find it necessary to criticize another persons way of enjoying themselves while fishing. If someone is fishing illegally, sure, have at her, they are abusing the resource. But I have never found the point, or any POSITIVE outcome, to otherwise do so.

I laugh like hell when I see somebody using a fly rod with a spinning reel on it. Completely wrong in my sense, but hey...maybe that person couldn't afford a noodle rod.
That $20 Wal-Mart fly rod may be giving him a better drift than his 5' ultralight spinning rod and helping him hook steelhead. In turn, making his day. So why "**** on his bar-b-que" just to make yourself feel a little better on the inside.

A ****bag is a ****bag no matter what he's fishing with. Or whatever computer he is using to type ignorant, less than informative messages online, that they would otherwise never say in person. Stereotyping is for the close minded.

Loomis, I'd be willing to participate. Heck, I will fish both sides by placing my centerpin reel on one of my double handers.

Oh yeah,

I still recommend pxatim to purchase a switch rod and feel free to nymph fish with it.
