Buying a boat, help needed.

Hey guys. I decided to buy a motor boat finally, and needed some advice. I'm looking for something that I can use as a hybrid bass/trolling boat. Something I can use on the Mohawk or trolling on Lake George. I know very little about boats. What should I look for in:

-design
-motor
-batteries
-and anything else you can think of.

Also, I'm looking for a used boat. Don't really want another monthly payment right now. I'm looking to spend 4K-6K.

What marinas do you suggest going to 1st?

Thanks.

Lots of decisions to make with this one; no one boat will ever fill your complete needs. I have a 19" Lund deep "V" with twin outboard motors and it makes a great fishing boat. It was new from Beckley's on Lake George four years ago.

Great boat, great service and a fair deal. A new one will set yo back a few dollars and I know they sell their "rental" boats yearly and have other options. Try if possible to go with the four stroke motors, very quiet and clean burning for hours of trolling. The extras can come as you can buy them (down riggers/planer boards/road holders).

Thanks for the responses. I guess I wasn't too clear on the info. I was thinking more on the lines of maybe, engines to stay away from or to look for, etc. Anyways, I got a very good deal on a used 16' Starcraft. Very, very clean. It was obvious this guy took great care of it. The test drive went smooth, and I was sold. The toughest part was trying to back it into my driveway. I've never trailored anything before. Probably took 8 tries.

When backing the trailer up, place your hand at the base of the wheel and which ever way you then turn the wheel is the way the trailer goes. Go to an empty parking lot w/ the use of cones and you will become better w/ it over time. Practice......,and lots of it and almost forgot take it slow when making any move w/ a trailer. You'll also find that coming at your driveway from different directions, that your have better view of your trailer when backing up from one of them.
