Catfishing season has begun!

I've been to south pier twice this week and have caught 8 channel cats all together. Only 2 with size, and tons of sheephead. One of the cats was 15+ caught on cut bait the other was 12+ on a live chub the rest were around 10-22 inches. Good luck and there starting to bit to let everyone know

how do you get your cut bait?  Do you catch live fish and cut them or do you get large shiners and cut them?  I ask, b/c I dont really have the time to fish for a couple hours for bluegills in the river here, and there is no pond near me that I have access to to get them real fast.

I get suckers in the spring, fillet them and cut into chunks and thaw them out like meat you would cook. I usually get my fish when its been sitting in the sun for awhile, i also use cut chubs but it rather keep some alive and step on them and throw them out there

I also keep the fish I've caught while fishing and freeze them for later trips. I always keep water from that area I've caught themin the freezer bag so they don't get any freezer burn or lose any kind of scent. takes a little longer to thaw but it works great.

Did you ever try chunks of cut Sheephead? They're very oily!

I fish anywhere on the bayfront with success, if you're not getting bites move around because when you find them its easy to get them. The best time is before and after a drzzle or an overcast day. All i do is use 30# spiderwire stealth, silver LONG steal leader with some big catfish hooks and a small sinker. The best size gills and 3-6 inches and I hook them in the spot between there upper fin and eye which seems to hook them best. I usually get a couple gills and then use to rods and them sit for awhile my line goes striping. Its a fun way to fish, I also like putting a rod in a rod holder for pike and using gobies for bass while I'm waiting for pike to get constant fish action hope this helps. If you want a specific spot please PM so not everyone hears it. Hope this helps
