Peters or Mingo tomorrow Meadow Run today

Has anyone been fishing peters or Mingo lately? Anybody doing any good? Thinking about trying both tomorrow. I went to Meadow Run this morning and caught 6, 3 being brown trout, 2 were rainbows and one brookie. Very aggressive fish I must say they hit on pretty much everything I tried. My friend also caught something that looked like a rainbow/brook trout it had the markings for a brook but had the color or a rainbow I think its pretty sweet. Would that be the result of natural reproduction? But anyway it was the first time fishing this stream so I say I did pretty good and what I like about this stream is that it’s quiet and away from everything and you have to walk and work for the fish it’s nothing like a Mingo its so much more challenging which makes it fun. Ill try to post some pics later!

The recent rains have spread the trout in mingo, the best bet is near the bridge or down stream.

the little ones you caught in meadow are the fingerlings that they stock in the yough. A bunch will run upstream (I've caught them above the church) every year. There are always a bunch in the river above the falls too. They are rainbow fingerlings.

    Thanks,

Oh ok I didnt know that. I was fishing down stream from the church. From the church how far is the river? And what makes them swim up the stream?

It's natural for Trout to swim upstream.  From Church to Yough, I would guess in the range of 2-2.5 miles walking the stream.

almost 4 miles from the river to the church if you are walking the stream. It is 2 1/4 from the river to Dinner bell road.

    Thanks

Wouldn't have thought it to be that far.  From the bridge to the Yough is now artificial only correct ?   Been years since i've been there.  In the 70's, we'd fish that big hole that you can access from the parking lot up top, then walking a trail down to the creek.  Back then it wasn't commercialized, then in the early 80's, we pulled in one day and there was a big sign (wooden park sign) that literally read "BIG HOLE" and had an arrow pointing to the trail to access it.

In 1978 I put a  '78 penny under a rock up near that lot.  Always wanted to go back and see if it's still there but never have.

no, I wouldn't have guessed it either. good old google earth.

From the 481 bridge upstream to the confluence of the small run that comes in is DHALO. I think it is 2 miles of stream.

    Thanks

there is no way that a fingerling is making it further than the first waterfall about a 1/4 mile up meadow run.

I would not have thunk it either. Those cascades are a bugger to traverse without feet.

The Meadow Run DHALO was expanded a couple years ago and extends from the Yough to the bridge over Dinnerbell Road:

Meadow Run - Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only - 2.2 miles; From the mouth of Meadow Run at the Youghiogheny River upstream to the SR 2011 Bridge on Dinner Bell Road adjacent to the Ohiopyle State Park office.

    Hi Mack,

Guess you learn something new every day. Makes sense to have it to DBell road. It is an easy point to mark and describe.

    Thanks

    Loomis,

You mean the one at the bottom of the butt slides above the big rock hole? When the water goes up , there isn't much of a falls there. The butt slides end up having a lot of pockets on both sides of the main flow and there are a lot of undercuts all along the slides. I don't see a problem at all with them getting up there.

    Thanks,
    rick
