Troubles

Am I the only one not catching striper?  I put in a full day last sat., 1/2 day this sat. and 5 hours in a kayak today.  grand total of a few cats,2 shad, and a bumload of herring. Fishing from brunos to corning.  Drifting, anchoring, live bait, cut bait... can't seem to win.  Was doing pretty well early season..    On the bright side, I caught a monster shad in the yak today.  pics coming when i can find my camera cord.

I went out with Reel and Wisdom on friday... we didn't ge a sniff and didn't see anybody else pulling any in. With the river at 62.4 degrees, the partys mostly over it looks like.  -

They are still there , just not feeding. When they do it's going to be a blood bath !!! The sign is unreal, they are stacked up every where ... hell today or tomorrow could be the day it starts. We caught 3 Saturday & 5 Sunday (2 - 17.5lbers late in the day). The two fish from Sat has absolutly nothing in thier stomachs.

The run is not over and i know we will still be catching fish for 2 more weeks

really our numbers are very comparable....hats off to your great season down there...one of these days we'll get out (more on that later)

it would be interesting to see who has personally caught more this year.....my numbers i quote are total fish to my boat...which is a 2 man rowboat so out of 46 i would say probably 12 were reeled in by other people - i know 7 were reeled in by my friend from college the one day we whacked 14 fish!..........i work for myself so i can get up and out when i want and get off the river when i want or stay out if they're biting.

Perch and i went out this morning....when i got out at the launch and saw boiling water at the dam i knew the outlook wasn't good......2nd trip out of 22 or so without a fish!!

We did manage herring but the current was very strong and the water was dirty...not horrible but dirty.......we fished till 9:30 or so.......still cool to get out and fish with a Fish USA brother.

Hey SOF What kind of boiling did you see - it could mean that the Stripers are schooling the herring to the surface and are in a feeding frenzy ...

I am sure that little rowboat was a fun place to be this morning regardless....  Way to get after 'em!

The dredging started this weekend up in Fort Ann/Whitehall so I assume we will start seeing plenty of discoloration if we haven't already downriver.  Of course, the biblical rains of the weekend has the ADK rivers plenty high I am sure...

Luckilly, this time of year most excess precip is being taken up by trees 'leafing out' and we don't see the dramtic flooding of late fall and early spring when the vegetation has 'shut down' for the season.

I bet you guys will NAIL THEM when it mellows, huh?

Yeah Jeff it was definitely from tons of water crashing over the dam and not from fish.............i don't think dredging will really mess our water up too much...that is 60+- miles up the river....seems like most of the stuff would settle before it gets to us.
