kayak storage systems and setups
I was wondering what you guys use for storing your stuff that you want handy , lures and such, I cant rationalize keeping everything in a hatch, Ive seen some set ups with milk crates but I can't find anyone selling them, thanks in advance plus does anyone use a fish finder on their yak?

Cant find anyone selling milk crates? At very least, you could probably find one at an office supply store, with a cover identity as a filing crate.

One of my good fishing buddies' dad and uncle mounted them on their Old Town Rush yak's. Just in front of the main seating opening, by drilling holes where needed and bolting in.

I was debating the milk crate as well. Only thing is, you'd likely need to secure it to your kayak anyway. I have a scotty holder in the front of my kayak, set to the side of my depth finder (cheap Hummingbird Piranah 3 - use a 12v drill battery for power). I have 2 plumbing Y connectors with about 6" tubes that stick out for carrying multiple rods and trolling, mounted behind my seat. This plumbing connector also holds a 3' long pipe with an LED night light for fishing after dawn. I have an anchor (3lb lead ball sinker) attached to a 2' chain using a light wire split ring connector, for easy escape if it gets stuck in current. I have a second rope that runs through the front handle of the kayak, with a pinch style clip, that I attach to the anchor rope. That way, you are always facing the current.

Another thing that I have added to mine, which is probably the best $10 spent. Rubber moulded paddle holders. You just push it in and pull out when needed. Mine came with the bungie style holder, which isn't the easiest thing to use, especially when in a hurry. A paddle leash is nice too.

Porktown, Where did you buy the paddle holders? Are they the folding type? Thanks for any help!

Beerman, I bought them at Galyan's in the Washington D.C. area. They were bought out by****s a few years ago though. They are very similar to these ones. They're very basic, but work great. I tried using the bungie style ones that were built into my boat, but almost had to jump overboard to get my paddle... I did have to do that when I was in Mexico on the deep end of the coral reef (tiger shark grounds). But I was on my honeymoon, drunk at 11AM, so was indestructable (dumb)! http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=KFS&Product_Code=Karr-rpc&Category_Code=pc PT
