in that price range both st croix and TFO are great rods with me leaning more toward TFO, I do have both rods in 5wt.  i would also look at echo rods.  they have been gaining a good reputation.  you may also look at a used rod.  an older scott SAS or A2 would be a great buy in that price range and i do see them occasionally.

Definitely check out Hoeys before you buy. He is closing his store, but there are some closeout bargains to be had.

TFO is a brand name tile Sage, Orvise etc.  they are based in texas but build their rods in, i believe, korea.  the guy who started them worked for sage and basically built a knock-off for their 1st line.  now they have some new models with their own tapers.  as i said very nice rod, especially for the money.  i have 2 and may end up with a 3rd.

TFO are great rods. Have 3 of them. It's always nice to see them get higher reviews than rods that are priced double or more the cost of a TFO!

Echo 2 rods,  temple fork rods, and the redington rs4 are in my opinion the best rods you can buy for under 200$. These rods before like rods costing 3 times as much. I have a echo 2 in a 9ft. 5 weight it comes with two tips one for distance and the other for accuracy. I would buy these rods over any on the market. i also own many redington and tfo rods. All three companies make a good product worth checking out.
