this site need some reports!

Salmon fishing out on the big pond has been GREAT! From Fairhaven to Henderson troller have been taking good catches of salmon and trout. Spoons and dodger/fly combos have been doing the best. Kings have been out deeper 150-200' and have been weighing in from 15-30 pounds. Browns have been in tighter 70-100' and have been running 5-15 pounds.
It's shaping up to be another fantastic summer/fall fishing season for Lake Ontario and the Salmon River area!

Iknow,I know, but with a jillion steel and browns slashing at everything in the big lake, tell me,with this possible huge bunch coming up river,is the forage base capable of handling all these new bigger fish??Do they hit on the salmon smolt,or what to sustain life??? 20,000 more than average steel eating 4 ounces a day amounts to 5 ton of food a day,I think...Not worried, just learning...frank

    steelie:
do you think the fish are really bigger and more ?
personally i think they are actually smaller and as to more compared to what?
compared to the hey days i'd say far less
compared to the mid-late 90's , i'd say there may be an increase due to better natural reproduction
but possibly the more smaller fish may also be a result of more competition for food
something everyone struggles with trying to find the balance of the forage base
    do they feed on smolts?
best fly on the river during spring should answer that .

now i base this on personal observation only
it's quite rare to catch a 15+# football brown, 35# giant king,23+# coho & an 18# steelie i'm sure they are there but few and far between
