Braid for Dipsy

Would 30 lbs test Power Pro be a good line for Divys?  I triing to figure out how the rig up for my trip.  I have two line counter reels & two calcutas (no line counter).  I am thinging the line counters should be set up for dipsies.  The others set up for downriggers.

In the general consenus to use small to med dipsies off the boards & large off the back/sides?  How about Jets?  Do they pull a little less on the releases.  Never used either one but I would think one would need to set the line in the release pretty far back.

Your thoughs?

30lb is perfect for dipsys, jets, ect.  Braid is a little different off the boards though youll be needing to use bands instead of the normal snap releases.  Thin braid has no streach and will yank right out of most typical planer board releases especially if there is a chop.

Jets and dipsys both run great off the planer boards....dipsys sink at rest jets float...bout the biggest difference........

Thanks CB.  I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.  Do you use Florocarbon leaders?  How long of a leader is used off the dipsies?

For sure they are good for both dipsy's and jet divers, but the reason for needing rubber bands on any braid is because that type of line is more slippery and will actually slide out of a release with the slightest wave or wake on a calm day.  That's the nature of all the spectra or synthetic lines.  Rubber bands will give the releae something to grip, plus it acts as a type of 'shock-cord' or absorber on rough days with alot of wakes or waves.

also the rubber bands help you to see if you are dragging small fish.  this is the first year ive used braid and it makes a huge difference, you can feel every move the fish makes.  just remember dont set the hook because youll rip it right out of the fish's mouth

I just made the switch to braid last year. It does make a big difference with the dipseys.

But on the planer boards, I'm experiencing this strange thing when I use the rubber bands. The release actually "creeps" up the planer board cord towards the boat. It's like the braided line is slipping through the rubber band. I don't have this problem when I use the releases without the rubber band. But then again, the line won't necessarily stay in the release when not using the rubber band. Anyone else have this happen?

Capt. Dan Buckets:  Divy = Diver (ie dipsy diver).  I like to use that now that a lot of guys are using Jensen Dipsy Divers and Walker Divers, eliminates branding.

I like the Stren Super braid in green.  On our third season with the initial spooling and still going strong.

Make sure it is braided spectra.....dacron is JUNK and will dry rot and break...

As far as you line slipping through the bands...Wrap around ur line multiple times with your bands....will prevent this slippage...i have experienced what you are talking about.
