Fireline Crystal??????

Has anybody used or is using Fireline Crystal on the ice. If so, how is it? I've read mixed reviews. Wanted a thinner diameter without giving up the pound test. Thanks for your in put.

i've heard of it, but never tried it, i've used the spider wire version but only for trolling, it worked fine.
for ice fishing i've been using the power pro braid with a floro leader for hardwater, it's gotten some nice crappie and perch. It is 8 lb and is only 1lb test diameter.

The only complaints i've heard about superlines are finiky fish so i always use a leader, even with mono.
    hope it helps

I looked into Power Pro and everyone was saying it absorbs water therefore it freezes.

I stripped my crystal 2lb. test fireline and replaced it with 4lb green fireline. I had to many breaks with so thin a fusion line on the ice. I also stripped 4lb. mono maxima for berkley 3lb. ice mono which is an improvement imo. You really only need light lb test for ultra light jigs.. i like heavy lures , at least 1/32 oz. on light lines for deep jigging say 15 ft or more.

If I were going for monster fish, I see no reasoo go over 6 or 8lb. braids.. most ice jigging lures work best with no more than 4 lb either fireline or monos. 4Lb fireline will likely cut you trying to break it with your hands, more than enough for a main line on  a jig combo.imo

This my first year ice fishing but here's my 2 cents - If your using a mono try a heavier  pound test in a fluorocarbon scene these lines are less visible to fish .

If your still want a low dia. braid - I researched some info on it and a lot of people swear by Power Pro.

if you're worried about freezing,  i started treating my guides with sub-zero lube.
also i heard that rubbing lines on a candle does good.

blitz, let me know how that stuff works, down here in rockland county we don't experience much extreme freeze guide temps.. i know ice breaks easier off the guides if treated. I heard chapstick works, thinking about patenting a fish attractor chapstick ..as the line spools it gets scented! me always thinking! remember it's my idea, email ing berkley tonight! lol

Thanks for all the input. I should have explained myself a little better. I was looking to put 20# test (6# equivalent diameter) on shimono 1000 series reels for pike (reel will hold 100 yards of the 20#) so I could buy bulk spool and save a couple of bucks by using it for salmon fishing in the fall as well. Again I really appreciate all your help.

#20lb test on  shimano 1000?... that be testing/overkill such a small drag reel. any series in that size I wouldn't go beyond 6 lb maybe 8 if i were fishing big fish but than i wouldn't use a 1000, i'd go with a 2000  for steelies this way plenty of backing. I wouldn't buy bulk in fusion line. I think 125 yds or 150 yds is enough for any fishing provided you have all the right components,. For salmon ? I wouldn't use a 2000 but go with a 4000.  I like my perch, crappie wish me luck! I know I'm blissed! thank you lord for another day!

Lol... no the 1000 were strictly for the ice and was considered a 2000 but the drag is the same on both. Salmon I used a 4000 with 20# Big Game mono last fall and for chits and giggles played around with a Daiwa 2500 and 6# Vanish, that was fun. The Vanish wouldn't break even on 20+ pound salmon running it through trees and rocks. I lost 1 to a break and that was on the reel not the line. For Salmon this year was going to pick up a Mooching reel and a 8 or 9 foot spinning rod which would have the backing capacity for steelies too. This King (16lbs 14oz) was caught on 6# Vanish on my first cast ever salmon fishing......
