There's a booger under your fingernail.

Other than that the quill bodies look decent.

So, how'd you strip the herl?  fingernails?

I hate stripping herl.  I love the finished fly's look, but it's such a pain to do, I usually don't.  I'll make a couple Quill Gordon's each season, but that's about it.

A quick way to remove the herl is to dip the stems in Clorax.  Get two aluminum disposable pie pans.  In one pan put some cold water, baking soda and mix.  In the other pan put the Clorax in.  Dip the herl into the Clorax pan until the herl is removed, only a matter of seconds, then put the herl into the water and soda mixture. This stops the clorax.  Let the herl stay in the bath for a few minutes and ba da boom ba da bing you're ready to tie.
