2008 Christmas Poem


2008 Christmas Poem

It was the morning of Christmas
I was a lonely ol’ lad
the ol’ lady went south
to visit her dad

My sons and my daughter were
way out of town
having Christmas with my ‘X’
so I decided to be Erie bound

I put Ben-**** on my feet
and rubbed my body and face with Vaseline
put on 3 layers of socks
and 2 layers of polypropylene

I grabbed some Chapstick
for the cold winter day
grabbed a can of WD-40
and a can of cooking spray

I remembered the hand warmers
and my rag wool gloves for sure
I took some gun oil
just couldn’t remember what for?

My rod and my reel
was already in the van
I stopped by Wal-mart
and bought worms in a can

The 2 hour drive
I really did dread
as visions of steelhead
danced in my head

I got to the creek
and parked to the side
I remembered everything
and hoped no one had lied

I put on an Under Armour shirt
and a knitted sweater over that
after putting on my 5mm chest waders
I looked 2 sizes too fat

I opened the foot warmers
& got them toasty hot
fitted them in my oversized wading boots
kinda goofy I thought

I went for my spinning rod
but couldn’t come to terms
I took off with my fly rod
and the cans and Wal-mart worms

I got to the creek
wearing my camo gortex hat
baited a hook
sprayed, casted and sat

So now here I am
this cold Christmas day
feeling like a stuffed greased pig
giving off vapors of Ben-****!

    Man, that is funny as hell!
    You would have to be a frequent reader here to find the humor in it!!
    For some reason I think a lot of it was geared toward me though! lol

    Except for the sweater....that was Chartist I think!

    Hilarious read, man! Hilarious!

    Good stuff Jerry . Perhaps santa will give you a brown for x-mas ? Well if you fish above boro park you may have a shot?
