Conneaut Creek

I usually fish elk Creek and the Chagrin, but i would like to hit he Connie. I would apprectate any info re; the Connie. At what flow does she fish best, and are there any fly shops in the area that I can contact for information. I have several maps of the area so I am alright there, but a palce to check conditions before a tow hour drive would help. Thanks in advance.

welp, you drive right over top of it then.
next time stop and try your luck

It's similar in size to the Chagrin.

you don't site fish the conneaut, it's constantly stained.  For that reason,  I don't care for it though I know fly guys who have had success fishing it.....I've fished it three times and I've had hookups.

    Charist,

I don't know where on the "Connie" you fished, but I caught numerous fish this fall. Sight fishing.

Spoonie, what you saw this Fall wasn't the norm

PA tribs are easily sight fished 3 days after a blow out.
Connie is just getting fishable on 3 days rest after a blow out

sight fishing isn't the norm over here

As far as I know there is no online gage height for the Connie.  Hence I look at the Grand's gage height at
    http://waterdata.usgs.gov/oh/nwis/uv/?site_no=04212100&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060

If the grands is at 4 feet or below then the Connie is fishable for "me".
I emphasize "me" because some people catch fish anytime but my success has been below 4 with the best fishing at 3.5.

When the grand's height is at 3 then you can most likely see fish.

    Hopefully, this helps.

I fished from the main street bridge to the lake....the water was always stained.  I read somewhere on the internet that the Conny was unlike Elk in that it was permanently stained and fishing required more hunting then blind casting.

Well, if the internet said it, it must be true.

My office is a stone throw away from The Conny, and I look at it everyday.
About 80 % of this year it was clear but with decent flow. Sight fishing has been the norm on my days fishing it! Not nearly as many fish as PA ditches, but bigger water to fish.

I also have ripped a few fish out of Conneaut Creek all the way up to Conneautville PA this year.

Mike, my condolences for your unfortunate locale within eyeshot of the Conny.  I thought you lived in FLA.  Maybe this is a bad year for the Conny as far as clarity goes.....Mike, go visit Vermillion OH,,,,that's what a decent fishing village is like...
