To Elephanthead

Many thanks to you and your buddy for helping me land and photograph my citation fish (my first) yesterday.  Meeting gentlemen such as yourselves renew my faith in the spirit of sportsmanship when many of the things we see and read point to something less.  When I can get the photo you took loaded up, I'll send it along.

For anyone else, we had a great afternoon yesterday on upper Elk with slowly rising green water and lot's of hungry fish.  We left the fly rods at home and threw minnies at them with good results.  The weather did not cooperate, however, and we were sent running for cover with numb fingers and toes.  But all and all, a great day to be there.

Nels, you're welcome, glad to help. Some of my friends on here might argue the word gentleman when describing me. LOL  A fish like that comes around once in a while and sometimes never.............Dave

    Thanks for the welcome!

I have to be honest, as good as that fish looked to me on the stream, the picture doesn't do it justice.  Maybe some of you trophy hunters can give me some pointers on how to hold the thing properly for a photo?  I was lucky just to get the thing out of the water with my hands as cold as they were...

Elephanthead, we weren't just seeing things right?  You mentioned it might be around 13 pounds...  Oh well, I will post the pic later and you guys can all get your laughs but it was fun nonetheless.

Anyway, funny story...  As I was pouring some shiners into my small bucket, a big 5 incher fell out on to the ground.  My buddy said, "You better put him back in, you could grab a 13 pounder with that thing!".  Sure enough, that was the fish that got eaten by that big chromer!

As I said yesterday, I weighed a 9# 4ozer. earlier and yours looked much bigger. Guess we'll never know for sure. But I'm sure it went over 10/11#.  By the way, when I got back to my vehicle I looked for my scale & found it in my jacket back pocket. Sorry, thought I put it in the truck. Would've ended all speculation. One thing for sure, it WAS a "citation fish". Also, saw many pics of large fish and some pics don't do them justice. It WAS a very nice catch!!     Dave
