To me the most "evolved" angler, is the one who has little concern over what other anglers on the stream are doing, and even less about THEIR place on the "evolutionary scale". Because he is to atuned to his own line, whatever it may be attached to.

I too often wonder about those who seem to use the SAME setup, the SAME baits, rigged the SAME way wether they are fishing a lake, high & stained, or low & clear. But MAYBE watching a bobber, or taking to their stream mates while their bait remains anchored to the bottom, the most contentful thing in their lives, and all they want out of fishing. Perhaps THEY have "evolved" to the point where fishing is FISHING. Not a science, not a challenge, not a competition, just fishing. They may enjoy it more than all of us, regardless of how expensive our gear, or how many fish we catch. Maybe THEY get it, and we don't.

I notice, and sometimes wonder. So I'm not fully evolved, bit I'm content to let them be content. So I'm getting there, I hope.

Excellent Post.w_w.

If it has fins and gills, I'm there.

And in the end. What does it matter. Use what ever you want. Its not like steelhead, are wild browns, or native brook trout.
Have fun with it.......

Hmm Swinger, sounds like your judging PEOPLE by how they fish. That's the least EVOLVED thinking in this entire thread. Let me guess, you like to swing flies? Usually those who judge and scour at others are the first to prop themselves up as a that oneprophet. You should start a cult.

Joe - you sure nailed one...

which type of fisherman will likely be better educated?
which type of fisherman will likely make more money?
and therefore, which type of fisherman will have the more attractive spouse?

What's your point ?????  Does all that = happiness ???? I don't think so. You speak as if you haven't lived long enough to figure that out. Good luck in your future.....  Dave

Here's some clues Elephanthead:  I don't use ph for F, I don't use A for ER I don't pluralize nouns with a z.....Am I more likely to be over 35 or under 35?

I don't come up with screen names using derivatives of the word steelhead......Am I more likely college educated, high school educated or high school dropout?

Elephanthead, I understand your point.  Once the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter are covered, one can afford to think about happiness.  Back to the thread of evolution.

Hypothetical:  It's February and freezing cold and the propane tank is empty.  You call propane Dave for a fill up but haven't paid him yet for the last delivery.  Dave asks, why didn't you sign up for government assistance by October?  Who is more likely to say I forgot, an Erie bait fisherman or an Erie fly fisherman?
Answer:  It's a trick question, they both would.

I have owned my own company for over 20 years. Have been employed all my life. Have a attractive wife inside and out.  Sometimes I use my flyrod sometimes the spinning rod. But best of all I am a Erie masterbaiter.

All of the above. Our military is over sea's with their names on their shirts living in a makeshift home with a name of a fallen hero above the door. Their superior sits at his desk with his name on it giving them orders where they are going to fight next so you and the rest of us can enjoy our freedom and fishing the Erie tribs and posting this BS on this board.

I figured you for the Republican on the thread.  I lost a nephew in that war so you're preaching to the choir.  This thread is just a momentary diversion for me as I try to figure out the stock market direction for today.

I choose Little Cleos

I'm the best looking smartest snagging poacher alive...

Agreed! Fishing is about having fun!  And IMO thats all that matters, as long as you're legitamately catching fish (not snagging).

you can fish with a piece of bamboo and some string, as long as you've evolved from sitting on the couch watching TV.

oh yeah and i use a noodle rod and i like it! Fly fishing just isn't my cup of tea, i hope nobody looks down on me now

You are probably soon to be a member of one of the groups who you say
are bait fisherman.

Perhaps some flyfishermen are "more evolved", but every time I start to believe that I end up fishing next to that guy on Elk with the red fly line and the 12 lb leader, that casts a weighted egg pattern right into the mass of boiling steelhead, then jerks the rod and snags another one in the side. Then I realize that snagging with a fly rod is still so easy a caveman can do it. ( Absolutely nothing against real sportsmen that swing the big rod...)

what a surprise that this thread has turned out this way!
