as mentioned, the shear numbers in small shallow  cricks is what spoils most

doesn't matter whether it's the bath tub hole at Da 'Nut, or walking up on dozens on the gravel, or plucking pairs out of pocket water, you're still there and nowhere else because of the numbers.

More fish in small water = more chance for hook sets  with less work, regardless whether your chumming with trout Love Potion Numbah Nine, or tossing a dry fly.

if you fish other state's tribs regularly for steel, you know what i mean

I think the draw also includes things like ease of access, the relatively inexpensive nature of the fishing (you can find piles of strong, fresh sea run fish in other places, but you might have to pay big bucks and go to a fair amount of trouble to fly in and reach them), and the size and strength of the fish as well.  And perhaps another factor is that one can use so many different techniques to catch these fish that it keeps the fishing interesting when one might have enough of something else.
