I was fishing a DHALO and a guy showed up and told me he went up to Erie this morning and there "wasn't any water" so he drove 70 miles south to fish for trout..

    Good morning everyone,

I am planning on bringing my son up for his second steelhead trip early monday morning and into tuesday.  I am trying to get some info on water conditions.  The weather sites say that it is raining and will turn to snow.  Any information would be much appreciated. I hate to drive four hours to find unfishable conditions.  Thanks and God Bless.

Unless you do a rain dance da cricks are low , clear and not much flow. Watch the weather and if we get rain and snow it might be worth your trip up but as of right now its tough fishin. Good luck if you make the trip up.

that's a tough call to make, AK
The skies could let loose some heavy rain and blow things out, or just spit a few showers and you'll be looking at low and clear conditions, or anything in between
Just no way to predict with any measure of certainty.

Best help I can offer is to look at the weather radar maps and check the flow charts  before you leave.
If the flow gauge has spiked big time, you'll know to stay home

Personally, I like the one on Brandy Run

It's not a perfect indicator, but when it spikes up big time, it's good indicator that the creeks are blown out

I have been here since Friday and still no major rain.  Showers are expected, but we have been getting off and on showers all weekend.  That doesn't change flow or color much.  Fish are not biting much, mostly early AM, late PM.  They are spooked.  No one is catching fish on a regular basis on Elk.  Gotta work hard.

Went up today and the creeks are extremely low.  They are as low as I've ever seen them.  There are lots of fish but just takes a lot of patience and lure selection to catch them.

I would like to thank everyone for the information over the last ah 36 hours or so, we decided not to make the trip due to the cold weather and low water conditions.  I really want to get my son up there when he can hook into several chromies and get hooked on the sport. I have fished the world while in the Air Force and want to get him interested in the sport, what better place to motivate a young man than at a hole like the Manchester with say 500 fish in it.   A special thanks to Genieman77 for the flow meter info, that will definitely help in the future as to when to head north.  Thanks and God Bless...  Shane

Let it snow and then let it thaw nice and slow.
