jig materials

Hello All!

I am just learning how to tie my own jigs and was wondering if anyone could recommend a place that is reasonable in their prices for tying materials. I need everything such as jigs, flash, tail material such as maraboro (I think that is how it is spelled) and anything else needed to make my own jigs. Can anyone recommend other types of materials to use for the jigs tails? What do you suggest for tying materials when tying your jigs for steelhead, perch, and other panfish?

I spin fish if you needed to know this? Also, what size jigs do you recommend using?

Marabou is what I think you are trying to spell. What you spelled sounds more like a type of cigarette.

Where are you from?  If you live near Pittsburgh, The Sportsmans Warehouse has a lot of the materials you'll need.  However, I found over the years, that there are several different places I like to go to to get my stuff for tying jigs and such....BAC has the threads, bucktails, flash and other materials, Elk Creek has the jig heads I like (1/64 & 1/32 oz.)...I got my vise at Sportsmans.  You could also do tons of shopping online for your materials....I'm not sure if FishUSA has anything, but you might want to check it out.  Another good supplier is **DELETED** on the net. **DELETED**
I, myself, don't use marabou.  I like bucktail, its just personal preference for me.

    Hope this help!  Good Luck.

You might want to try Polar hair and Craft fur. Most fly shops carry them.

how long do you make your jigs? 2x shank? 3x?

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.
