Linseed Oil

O.K. Here is one for you guys. I was at a cookout this weekend and naturally talking fishing. A guy (we were not drunk yet) said that the old timers used to dip there lures in Linseed oil when the fish were not biting. Has anyone ever heard of this one? Sounds like B.S. to me but I figured I would post it and see what the comments were.

CML 260 was around 30 years ago.
My grandfather sprayed it on his hands for arthritis.
I do not know if they still make it.

I have heard of the WD-40 trick but I thought it was illegal to use.  Not sure of the Lineseed oil though.

    Gentlemen,
I was told a reason for this years ago.  It may be totally bogus; but it may have some basis in fact.  The reason any light oil works as a fish attractant is because fish have oil in their systems and when a fish is injured some of the natural oil and blood are trailing it in the water.  Fish like an easy meal and a wounded prey is usually easy prey.  Therefore, oil of any type would have some attractant value to a fish.   I have soaked lures in a mixture of olive oil and garlic with good results in the past.  What's it hurt to try something once.  I tried the olive oil thing, and it worked.  I'd like to try cod liver oil but it stinks like mad.  Might work real well.

I have heard that spraying w-d 40 on your lure works.  Someone on the board once said there is fish oil involved.

    What does WD-40 contain?
While the ingredients in WD-40 are secret, we can tell you what WD-40 does NOT contain. WD-40 does not contain silicone, kerosene, water, wax, graphite, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), or any known cancer-causing agents.

There is a popular urban legend that the main ingredient in WD-40 is fish oil. Although it is unknown whether the formula contains fish oil, material safety data sheets for the product show that the main ingredient is Stoddard solvent, not fish oil.[5] WD-40 is, however, used by some sea fishermen as an added scent when fishing with bait

Attract fish. When sprayed on fishing bait, WD-40 covers up the scent of human hands on the bait to better lure fish, according to USA Today. The WD-40 Company receives hundreds of letters from consumers confirming this use, but prefers not to promote WD-40 as a fishing lure since the petroleum-based product could potentially pollute rivers and streams,
