It goes to show that the almighty dollar is, as always, undefeated.  The steelhead fishing generates a lot of revenue in the Erie area whether some locals like it or not.  I'd be willing to bet, however, there are far more who welcome the out of towners than not!

    Guys,
That's not "spot burning"...That's no more info than you can get on the main page here!

Now if the author would have said "Great run with a bunch of fish caught under the *** bridge" (which is owned by Larry and Linda) THAT would be spot burning!

    Definition of "spot burning"...

To point out a specific area to fish that is on private property!

    Example of spot burning....

"A bunch of us caught a 100 fish at the _______ (spot owned by somebody nice enough to alow us to fish there)hole and there are still about 250 fish in that spot! Here's some detail directions to get there."

Example of a good post with no "spot burning"...

"A bunch of us caught a 100 fish in middle walnut and the water conditions were excellent!"

Spot burning sends a bunch of anglers to ONE area that often results in overcrowding and a Peed off landowner!

Frankly, I thought I provided the best definition of spot-burning on the terminology thread, but it just got a lot of negative reactions for some reason.

I thought it was short and to the point, but its all getting rather redundant.  You see these topics arising over and over again this time of year when people are antsy about steelhead fishing.  I'm sure these topics of conversation/bickering will soon begin to dissolve as we start spending more time on the water and less time talking about it in here.

    not exactly.
The next re-run topics now that things will be in full swing  will be about snaggers, liners, litters, crowders, roping too many fish, C&R only sections, out of towner vs local,  etc

i don't think there are any topics that haven't been discussed a dozen or more times (at least)

another thing that's fo-sho.... the explosion of anglers this week end now that there's some water and flow in the crikz

The Commission stocks over a million juvenile steelhead each year and continually works on improving access to Lake Erie tributaries through property acquisitions and easements using angler funds acquired through the Erie permit and Erie/trout/salmon combo permit. The Commission also makes funds available for property acquisitions and easements through the Erie Access Improvement Grant Program. You can find out more about this program at www.fishandboat.com (click on “Grants” located in the left navigation bar of the home page).
As always, the Commission asks all anglers to leave no trace by picking up all bait containers, discarded line, and any other trash before leaving fishing sites.
The mission of the Fish and Boat Commission is to protect, conserve, and enhance the Commonwealth’s aquatic resources and provide fishing and boating opportunities. For more information about fishing and boating in Pennsylvania, please visit our website at www.fishandboat.com.

when I was a young Buck in my prime like you, I fished the cold cold weather too.
Now that I'm well past  my prime, the day temps need to be 32 and above to get me out.
I just don't enjoy clearing icy guides, and leader/tippets  encased in a tube if ice

This past prime Buck now looks forward to hunting season and Thanksgiving  to fish.
    I've fished Christmas mornings too.

There is one part of winter steelin that really trips my trigger.... fishing in 33* temps and  moderate to heavy, large flake snow falling
Something magical about it to me

Part of the overall fishing experience is to find the fish yourself in a crease or seam where others have walked by or given up on, and have the satisfaction of pulling a fish or two out of that water. Love to fish, catching is just a bonus.

I'd prefer it to be a little more winter than that, sorta like this. p.s. the gaff was not used, someone else sat it there in case I wanted it. be a man and just reach your hand in there guys, water's not that cold!   I don't think I'd want to live anywhere that it was sunny and 75 all year, gotta have some change/variety duud.

I'm from Pittsburgh.  Come up several times to fish the Bay during the Spring - Fall, but as many times as possible during the run.  Always look forward to the trips, and truly appreciate of the updates everyone provides.  I think most people are good sportsmen, although one time I was on one side of a creek with a guy on the other who kept catching.  Couldn't figure out what he was throwing then realized he was snagging fish with a treble hook.  Couldn't get to the other side to get him.  Only saw this once, the rest has been all good.
