Well finely after a life time of fishing I got to see a first, the Linesville Spillway Walleye frenzy action. What can I say politely and not offend this style of fishing. I'm not sure that this is even fishing. They hug that " Nursery Water Wire " like vultures on a fence post, just jigging those fluorescent sonars up and down steady. Just dip and rip. No casting , no bait, no variety of other lures, just good old treble hooked sonars . Seen 3 Walleye caught and all were hooked in the bottom outside gill plate and all went on stringers. A guy told me "they hammered them last night" and I'm thinking I bet they did ! Seems a shame to ambush spawning Walleye so close to a Nursery Water Zone with such low sporting tactics. Each to his own but, you will never see me fishing anywhere near that zoo !

You have to wonder how a "fishery" like that, which seems so easy to police and put a stop to continues.  Write enough citations there to fix the weed problem in the lake.  Hell, write enough to double stock the entire NW zone.  Eventually people will get the message.  And good on them.

Yeah Captain , have always heard about that also ..... Nope not for me, yes it's a shame that this is allowed to happen ... Never went to see it myself ..... I just enjoy being out on the water if I get lucky that is good if not that is ok too ...

Not sticking up for anybody, this style of fishing is different to say the least. I've caught plenty in the mouth,I've also snagged plenty. There's a way to fish a blade bait and a way to intentionally snag. The wardens told me there's about 5 percent natural reproduction of eyes . Pymy is a great fishery because it's heavily stocked by both states. Stocked fingerlings work there not fry. Where there's a run of fish in any body of water, they get hit hard. Erie, steelhead,Maumee river gets torched, with eyes and then white bass. Unfortunately most fish are easier or more congregated when they spawn. This spillway thing will never get shut down, there's quite a bit of revenue generated there. Nobody  complain about ropes of spawning crappie carried out by buckets,or people pounding big gills off there beds. As sportsmen you have to make a choice, taking a few fish will not  affect the over all population, not every eye in the lake heads to the spillway. We all know this lake takes a year round pounding,it's just not a spring thing, leadcore summer trolling takes a huge number also to a small percentage of fishermen. There's an old saying 10 percent of the fishermen catch 90 percent of the fish. You can catch eyes now where water moves, the bridges on the causeway, bridge 20, at the mouth of a small stream in Ohio. The stream the runs behind the school on the propagation side is loaded. It's close now ,but when it opens in May,try drifting a creek chub to to wire. I've killed eyes there, any gravel or sandbar will yield eyes, floating  Rap11,long A bombers,Bango stick baits, jigs and twister will take fish also. Years age a white buck tail jig tipped.with a small flathead caught plenty. I  caught many limits at the Spillway on jigs, but now you can't fish that way,due to the crowd and boats. All I can say it will be over very soon, two more weeks and it's done. I prefer wading the points, and feeling the eye stop my stick bait.Good fishing to all.

Dang Tuna, I like that 10% of the fisherman catch 90% of the fish thingy.  Now I can proudly say I am a statistic and part of the 90% category, who don't catch fish.

Big Tuna - you mistook my post, if some of your reply was aimed at me.  I don't care if people keep legal limits of fish.  I don't care if they keep every walleye they reel in.  I certainly do (though I'm not much of a menace there).  What bothers me is INTENTIONAL FOUL HOOKING fish.  And there is a very clear difference.  If you are out on the lake using a jerkbait and you hook a fish in the side of the head nobody cares.  That is going to happen.  If, however, you go to a place that is well know for holding fish that aren't eating but are easily snagged, and you proceed to snag them, you are doing the wrong thing and you **** well know it.  That's the issue here.

Like Ice Nut said, this same issue makes steelhead guys insane.  Also a big problem in Alaska I've read/seen on TV.  With salmon runs.

there's nothing sporting about snagging a fish either in a narrow wired area or a 6 inch puddle on an erie trib.

I'm with you Z, I don't care if a person keeps a legal caught limit of fish every day! That is their option when they purchase a fishing license. The Fish Commission sets the limits and seasons nobody else. I 've been fishing way too long and have traveled to many areas and seen plenty of fishing tactics over the years. I know what are snagging methods, and I've seen the fly rod lifters at their best too. Jigging vertical with a weighted double treble hooked lure inches away from a nursery water holding area is not what I call sport fishing ! Meat fishing comes to my mind first, illegal snagging is a real close second. I call it like I see it , if that's legal and that's what certain people enjoy so be it. If they get busted same thing, so be it.

Sonars and treble hooks are banned on the Maumee River and so is night fishing....I wonder why ?

Boys calm down I'm not for this form of fishing, nor did I take anyone's post wrong. I just saying it's gotten real bad there since the internet seen. Like I said last time there for me was 2006 and 2007. There's a real problem with a few dead beat unemployment fishermen that camp out there for the season. I may get in trouble for saying that but really don t care. They have told me they get 200 plus eyes, and yes they are snaggers. After the warden watches half the night and leaves thing get ugly. I personally have never kept  a foul hooked fish. I will say this there's a grey area between wardens, one told me in the mouthful other told me on the face forward the gill covers. I fished there when the wardens are there,I prefer that, for two reasons one I've asked them if it's a good catch, two keeps.the renegades under control.  My friend never did it and wants to go out of the boat, but I keep making excuses. We went crappie and gill fishing twice in the past few days so he's happy keeping some fish. I keep telling him it's combat fishing.lol

Great pics captain. I got to enjoy that sunset from the lake last night. Was a beautiful night to be out, but unfortunately the fish didn't think so. 1 short strike and that was it. Was definitely a windy sob. Caught a rogue wave down the front of my waders which made an early end to the evening.

Yea I never had a hit last night too, over at our river. Was looking to battle a Pike or two. Waiting on a warmer run before I hit Pymatuning wading. Looks like a cold spell is coming in now. Thanks guys, that was one super sunset last evening. I got out and stood in that corn field for probably 15 minutes snapping photos. Was starting to worry a little as those clouds got crazy looking. Was thinking about some of those alien movies !  LOL

There's five guys wading tonight just south of the Orchard launch and a trap net set by the state just north of Orchard. Gonna go to the hatchery and ask if they can tell what is caught in that net. Our
Place is about 50 yard north of the net. Would be fun to tell people " You know the was a 10 pound walleye caught in a net and released in the spring of 2016, right over there!"
