climbers

I wanna get 1, anybody got any good feedback on any they have ? I been checkin out Summits and Buckshots like my dad has but its honestly pretty heavy to be carrying for a good distance, its more of a leave in 1 spot an use for a couple days as compared to a go out, set up, come home type of stand. I would prefer 1 that i would be able to carry in everyday an set up wherever i can quick, easy an lightweight and also be able to use for archery and rifle. Any reviews on what you have are appreciated.

own 2 summits and like them and i also own a stand called a timber tall and it is the best in my mind

Bought a Summit 08 Viper SS today off of Ebay for $250, seems pretty decent and at least good enough to fall asleep in if things are boring.

Get a gorilla silverback and set of Gorilla climbing sticks, my whole setup weighs less than 15 lbs and I can climb any tree I want much more quietly than with a climber.

Is the SS the open front? I have the "open shot" and I wouldnt trade that stand for a skid of other stands, its rock solid!

Duud, glad to see you are learning that smashing it would be the best thing you could do with it.

I suggest you to put nail poshlish or lock tight on the threads of the wingnutts that are on ur feet stirrups, if not you will be climbing and they will pop off and fall to the ground, I removed the wingnutts and put regular nutts on mine with nail polish and let me tell you its tricky climbing without stirrups expecialy in the dark

I've been throwing around the idea of getting the openshot by summit for years.   The new design allows a bit more leg room while standing up although it added a pound.  But I've yet to determine why I would want to add 5 lbs to my shoulders!!(despite them being 15).  I like to set them up and give them a nice kick under the platform for a test of stability.  The old loggy's are the lightest, most solid treestands I've ever been in.  Not to mention they are not bulky.   I feel like the goodyear blimp in these newer treestands, and that is if I'm not sleeping!  The new cable design is nice for being quiet, which is my number two concern next to safety.  Maybe someday.
 
Parker -- timbertalls are nice.  But they gotta get rid of plastic tube covering the belt!

I have an old Loggy and it is very light. Just have to be careful. I also use a Bowhunter and that is okay as well but you always have the risk of slashing your fingers on the teeth.  I use mostly lock on stands that I set up before season. If I need to, I will put on the climber and go. Usually the Loggy is for shooting at home or trimming tree branches. I have never felt really safe in it. This one has a belt not the rope. The problem is the contact with the tree is too narrow and when it is wet, it can be a real problem slipping while on the way up. After you are cammed in, I think it is not too bad. I'm waiting for the recall...

As a Forester landowner, I have given more hunters the boot over climbers than for any other reason. Most with warnings before they climb. The last one gave me quite a bit of lip. My partner on a few properties had a couple real doosies. A State Trooper and an out of state hunter. The out of state hunter was told not to return, not because he was from out of state but because he was allready warned. The State Trooper claimed his stand wouldn't hurt the trees. However the next year sap was oozing out from all the cuts through the bark.
 I have no humer when it comes to climbers that have sharp teeth blades or spikes. Screw in steps are the worst, and those screw in equipment hangers are just as bad. The strap ons that cut I don't tollerate either. I use a Loggy myself.

wow, guess ya hate when the gun hunters bullets rip through a deer and end up in one of your trees. guess no gun hunting should be allowed there either

Treesparrow I have been hunting out the same tree for over ten years. I have a rivers edge climber it has blades on both sides on both parts and there is very little sap from year to year and this tree grows quite well !!!!!!  As a matter in fact much more and my stand will not fit around it. Same for a buddy of mine hunts out of a pine tree.BUT It saps up real bad  BUT IT GROWS  BIGGER every year too and the sap works great for cover scent.  AND YES WE BOTH HAVE PERRMISSION TO US THESE KINDS OF CLIMBERS FROM LAND OWNER
