rat-L-traps for walleye?

Does anyone know if rat-l-traps are any good for fishing for walleye from shore?  If not, how about some suggestions?

Thank you much.

I've never done well with Rat L Traps.  If you are talking the rivers, I'd say definitely not from shore.  Unless you have a bunch of them, and don't mind losing them.  They do have the floating ones, and would probably keep you from getting hung up as much.  That all being said, they do match a gizzard shad very well, so they should work, just haven't for me.

Porktown, yes I will be fishing from shore on rivers, so like you said, I dont wanna lose them all.  Have any suggestions for wanting to hit the eyes, but being limited to the shore?  I have seen the floater ones, but wasnt sure if walleye come up that high.
Again, thanks for all the help.  Its much appreciated.

try something like a shad rap or a sinking minnow lure like the x-raps.  u will prob snag alot using the rat l traps, jigs are always a good lure for river fishing for eyes.

You're going to lose some when you fish the rivers no matter what. I've done well on Wipers and Smallies with 'em, but not Walleyes...yet.

I like to put it out, let it sink, rip itup, let it sink, rip it up and so on. Sooner or later, BAM!

Never did much good with rat-l-traps in the rivers. My best lure in the river for eyes seems to be the hot-n-tot. I like to troll them in the Mon with a little extra weight nice and slow.

rat-l-traps will work, they arn't may favorate but will work. Anything that gets you down to the bottom, even better if your lure bumps the bottom.  This of course causes more snags but thats what they like.

I have caught walleye using Rattle Traps thru the ice on Lake Erie but never in the river.  I fish the Allegheny from Emlenton going North.  Even with a boat I think Rattle Traps would do nothing but grab the bottom.  If the area you are fishing from the shore is less than 6' deep and with a hard bottom (round rocks) try a medium Shad Rap.  Shad Raps only go 5' - 6' down, float, have a plastic lip, and the depth can be controlled by the retrival speed.  Black and Silver is a standard color for the river.  If the water is deeper than 6' try a suspending Wally Diver or a suspending Husky Jerk (you can rip those lures down).  I mostly fish for walleye in the river by drifting and casting  slender lures, spinner rigs and jigs.  Most of the walleye that we catch with those rigs will pick up the lure closer to the boat when the lure is "off the bottom".  Small mouth will hit the lure on the bottom and walleyes seem to be on the bottom looking up for their food.  Most of the walleye that I catch are in swifter water that is less than 8' deep.  I don't have the patiance to slowly fish the long deep pools with jigs or live bait.

If you are fishing for walleyes from shore in the river I wouldn't use anything else then curly tails or sassy shads. I've caught many walleyes saugers, smallmouths, white and striped bass, and even a musky using a Chartruese Berkley Gulp minnow grub 3"( basically a curly tail) with a 1/2 oz lead jig head. This is also a cheap set up so if you get snagged alot you won't go broke buying more. White will also work but I prefer the chartruese. The cover for gulps claim they outfish live bait and just about everytime they do. Just don't leave the curly tail on your jig head when you are done put them back in the pack or they will shrivel up to nothing on you jig head.
