Close to shore EYES?

Besides the late night beach fishing does anyone do well not far off shore early in small crafts? What are some basic techniques? No hot spots just ideas!

I did well shallow in the small boat well into july last year at night.  Hot-n-tots, reef runners and harnesses.  I used the boards instead of the dipsys when fishing that shallow, but it worked well.  Although the harnesses picked up a lot more goats in there.  Get some glow sticks.  The night bite is a blast.  And there is lots of parking at the nut, when you launch at 7 pm.

NW.  Depth depends and changes on every trip.  I got a lot better years ago, on erie after I spent about a week out there "REALLY LEARNING" how to use my depthfinder.  Get it off the auto setting and start dialing it in.

Earlier in the year you can find walleyes in tight during the day as well.  In the EARLY months of June and even July you can find fish in 30-40ft caught similar to how you target them deeper.  Once the water warms up off Erie, PA the fish will set up deeper and continue to move lower into the water column.....

If you want to fish the east side, try McCord's point and thereabouts.  Usually some eyes and big ones in there early in the season.  Try from 18-35' and you'll also be slamming the smallies so you'll be staying busy.

If its flat I sometimes will come out run to maybe trout run (west) set up and start trolling...Personally, if I am coming out of Walnut Creek 90% of the time I go west...

I go about 1/4 mile past Trout run.  That gives you time to get your lines out by the time you get to Trout.  18' to 40' right in front of Trout and just to the east 1/2 mile seemed to be the hot spot for me.  By far the best lure we used last year was the larger hot tiger reef runner.  Have fun, wish I still had my boat.

They're up and down the entire shoreline - not just by the creek mouths.  Spread out boys, you'll find 'em...

I know IUP, it just seems trout run is the most recognizable landmark when I am after em at night......

Thanks guys going to give it a shot this year. Erie's a whole new ball game on a boat. Besides the bay, charters and tribs!
