Tiger Trout.......Are you serious?

I"ve never seen one of these before. After 10 grown men (including me) could not identify this fish, A 12 year old boy told me its a tiger trout , a cross between a brook and a brown. He also said its pretty rare. Thought it might make a good topic of conversation. Anyway, the fish was 24", caught in the fairview gravel pits on a pink kastmaster.

Yeah, thats a Tiger Trout.  Nice fish!

Theyre pretty much as common as a palomino in the SW part of PA.  Lots of clubs stock them frequently, and the state has been stocking them the past few years.  I believe either this year, or next year is the last year the state will be stocking them.

Out of more than a few dozen fish this year, These are the only 3 fish I kept this season. Quite the prize to a one star angler like myself. But actually, it was alot of fun and I hope almost all of you catch one.

Nice fish, been wanting to catch a tiger 4ever !!!
Just a helpful photo hint, make sure the fish is clean, no leaves or twigs, it makes for a nicer pic and try to take it at the catch site if you can. I always carry a camera, you never know whena trophy like yours is going to bite the end of you line.
    Nice fish !!!!! Congrats !!!

It's funny you ask. The fish was all over the water. He absolutely crushed the lure and began shaking his head, for a moment it almost felt like a pike strike. When I put pressure on him and started to take line from him, he took off like a steelie with about three good runs across the surface rolling and flopping the whole way. It was a different experience that I'm thankful for. I hope PA continues with this fish, lot of fun.

Fish Comm. stocked them as a study a few years back. They quit doing it though. I caught a few 2 years ago, but nothing over 12". Tiger Trout can occur naturally, but it is rare. The ones pictured are the biggest ones I've seen. Nice fish!

I caught a Tiger at Pine Lake in Ohio when I was 10 years old, 24 years ago.  My dad got it mounted for me and I still have it.  It was 22 inches and about 4 pounds.

The mount was old school, with all the fins spread out and the gills were red fuzzy pipe cleaners.  Not a great mount.  The skin is starting to detoriate and the head is leaking oil.  Been looking for a taxidermist who would make a nice replica for me.

I got my picture in the Ohio paper with it.  I wondered why everyone was making a fuss over it.  I found out why not too long ago.  It's a nice trophy.
