fly rod question

I am not a fly fisherman. My daughters boyfriend is. He has recently come through some difficult personal times and I would like to get him a decent rod. He does not fish the tribs for steelhead so I figured a 4-5 wt would be good. I need any suggestions as to what I should get him. I need to keep it under $200 but would like the best rod I can get in that price range. Thanks for your help

Cabela's has some good choices under $200.  There are lots of other companies that have good rods in that price range.  Any idea what the boyfriend has already and what kind of fishing he does?

Check out these links.  I have one of the Diamondbacks and love it.

These are all reasonable rods in my opinion, but not over the top expensive.  I am sure you will find some who will recommend better rods, but for the money I have owned these rods or earlier versions of them and they have served me well.  The other advantage is FishUSA has great service.

    Good luck in your search.

look at the st croix avid or the TFO professional.  but if this is for someone else let him cast the rods.  most people like the feel of certain rods.  not all rods have the same feel.  some are more slow action others faster.  the reason is people have different rhythms with their casting stroke.  can someone who prefers a medium action cast a fast action, the answer most likely yes, but it may not be as natural.

The st. croix avid is a great all aroung rod for trout.  Mine is a 5 wt. 9 ft. and it works well under many situations.  This rod was 240$ they range from $200-$240.  Diamondbacks are also nice, and they have them at the erie Gander Mtn if you were interested.  Thats great that you're doing this for him.  Let me know if you have any questions on the Avid
