New bow.

All right guys. Looking for a new bow after having my old one for about 7 years. Looking at trying to keep the price around 600 to 700 setup. I was reading alot of good reviews about the Reflex Growler. Anybody shoot one? Looks like you can get a pretty decent setup for the price range I'm in. Of course, I would have to shoot it first. Have also heard some good things about Mission bows. Seems like a feature packed bow for the money. Just looking at some recommendations before I start pulling some off the rack to shoot. Also, how many of you guys have switched to carbons and was it worth it?

I've always shot carbons and yes they are worth it. Durability is far superior to aluminums and no straightness issues.
Some of the Bowtechs look pretty good. I'm eyeballing a new 82nd airborne. 328 fps IBO. They make a Tomcat that comes as a complete setup. Sight, rest, quiver, peep. I think that is around $500.

    Reflex IS Hoyt
    Mission IS  Matthews

They are not made cheaper, they are just sold cheaper. I believe they still come with the same warrenty

Definatly worth going to carbon, just the fact they are so much more durable sold me. If your shooting a new bow i think you gota  shoot carbon because aluminum cant handle the speed and power. (dont quote me on that)

Carbon arrows are superior because they are smaller for the weight than aluminium.  There is also less of a problem with straightness, and they are more durable.  I switched when I bought my Ross CR334, and I dont regret it a bit.

For your price range, I'd look at Martin bows.  They are first class, have great customer service and a lot of models to choose from.  Whatever you choose, try to shoot a lot of different bow brands and models.  If you do that, you'll find one you like.

Long story short:  Ross is being sued by G5, whom they contracted to make risers.  Supposedly, Ross didn't pay for the parts and G5 decided to put out a bow (called the quest) in order to recoup the money owed.  The quest bow was essentially a Ross Cardiac.  As this was happening, Andy Ross entered into discussions with Bowtech.  Apparently, Bowtech (which itself was recently purchased by Savage Arms) is going to purchase Ross.  The whole saga is still unfolding, but it looks like Ross is going to continue to exist.

I will throw in a couple of options.  First, Martin makes some fine bows (as do a lot of the manufacturers).  I recently shot a Diamond Marquis and it was unbelievable for speed, quiet, and forgiveness.  Several of my friends are shooting Matthews, which are all great shooters.  The interesting thing about Matthews (I do not shoot one) is the resale value.  My friends shoot a bow for two years resell it and spend 1-2 hundred for a new Matthews.  If you've ever seen the selling price of used bows, that is phenomenal. As for Carbon, I shot the ACC's and loved them.  Then I shot the Axis, hardest hitting arrow I ever saw.  Now I shoot the CX Maxima Hunter and am completely sold on it for a combination of toughness, straightness and penetration.  Good luck and have fun looking.

Thanks for the input guys. I shot a few bows this weekend and ended up walking out of the shop with a Hoyt Avenger. Didn't care for the Mathews as much. Bowtech was a great shooting bow, but the Hoyt shot just as well and actually felt better to me. At $550 set up with everything and out the door, it was everything I was looking for. This will be a great little hunting bow. Not the top of the line Hoyt, but if you close yopur eyes and shoot it, you can hardly tell the difference. Very smooth throughout the cycle. Not quite the speed merchant as some, but with a 28.5" draw, 70lbs, shooting a fairly heavy arrow with 100 grain point....it was still pushing 285 fps.
