Hatches for the 2nd week in May???

After having not fly fished for trout in almost 5 years, I am finally breaking down and taking leave from work and coming back to PA for a week to do nothing but fishing. I am coming up the second week in May. I am hoping to fish the FFO section of Yellow Creek, some of my old favorite holes on the Little J and a couple other old spots of mine. Its been so long since I fly fished up there that I cannot remember what was most likely to be hatching... If anyone can help out, I'd be much appreciative! No trout streams in my part of VA, water is just too warm. I also hope to give Raystown Lake a trip or two while I am in the area. Thanks in advance!

Sulphurs, Craneflies and CICADAS and probably some Green Drakes depending where you go!

I'd say you'll see some sulphurs on YC. You may also see a few march browns, little bwo's, tan caddis and midges. Underneath you'll want to use sulphur nymphs, scuds, pheasant tails and green weenies.

If you will be on YC or the Little J you may want to be prepared for chance at fishing a dogfood hatch.

Well, I will be fishing the FFO section of Yellow Creek, so if I see little brown pellets floating by I'll be worried. The Little J is stocked with fingerling trout only by the PFBC so by the time they get to a size anyone would wanna catch, I'd imagine they have outgrown their taste for little brown pellets. Thanks Drake for the advice! Will I be seeing you at either place?

The dogfood response was a Donnie Beaver dig.  Hopefully your flies will not resemble chunks. . . if I tied them then that is what they would likely resemble!

There is some extreme hatred of Donny Beaver on here, I will say that! Must be nice to be so rich that you can just buy a whole creek and keep it to yourself. I am so glad he couldn't pull off buying the FFO section of Yellow Creek... Maybe he'll leave PA for good and move out west and we can all be done with him! Any more advice on my upcoming fishing trip???

Yeah, i'll likely be at one or the other. If you want to fish, let me know a little in advance before your trip. The second week of may would be a good time for all of us south central guys to meet up for a day of fishing.

Some real hogs hit the top during that hatch. And here I thought a ten lb brown wouldnt rise for anything. So much for those 1/0 streamers.

Isn't the second week of May just a little early for Green drakes?

Sounds good Drake. I'll post before I head up and PM you with my info. Maybe we can try for a get together of all the local south central flyfisherman while I am in town to take in some fishing and I can thoroughly embarrass myself as to how rusty I am with my flyfishing for trout talents!
