Heading up

I will be fishing the end of next week for a few days up on the salmon river. Any thoughts on what section of the river i should target. Seems like the river will be running high 1400-2000 maybe..what area do you fish when the river is like that..

Anyone been fishing the sandy? Or other tribs?

Thanks in advance!

The same area I fish when it's 350....only the area has moved.

At this time of year look for deep water adjacent to gravel if you are upriver, lower down look for seams in the fast water as those fish will be on the move.

I'm over due for a trip.
I've fished 2400. Only landed one fish. I'm not good at those levels. No experiance.
    Just sayin'.

Actually you need to add in run off. Here's the Pineville guage.....1610 as I post.

Some claim when the snow melt is on the bite shuts down. Due to ice melt draining from the roads into the river or whatever that's what I hear. The ice melt/salt thing was a possible theory passed on to me by a dude who lives near by the river & is on it quite a bit.

Loren may or may not have this problem. I've only fished the Spring there a couple of years.

It's real easy to talk yourself out of going..but if you always wait for your definition of good conditions then anything beyond that will always be an obstacle.

March is tough--each day is different.  You just show up, give it your best, and walk away that much better for it.

Snowmelt can have an effect--especially if it is rapid and severe.  Not always though.

    Right on. Thanks Chrome.
I'm going fishing right now. Not Pulaski, but the best I have in my back yard.

As far as runoff i have always thought they get tight lips when that cold snow water drops the temp of the river...never thought about salt..not so sure about that...but i do know snow melting can make that river bitter cold! And nothing likes 32 degree water!!

I going to see what happens and give it my best for a few days..i report back with how it goes

    Nice fish.
No Steelheads for me in the near future.
I'll be going to N.C. in a couple weeks fishing... followed by the Big D for a long weekend fishing... followed by a trip to Texas to fish the flats for a long weekend...followed by taking fam. to the Beach for a week so I can do more Salt Fishing.
Between that I'll be fishing local hatches hard.
I couldn't fish for about a year. I need to make up for lost time.
