Yeah, that's what I want in the AM when I'm in a hurry to get to the stream - a packed bait shop - full of people buying their liscenses and spooling their reels.

I live in North East and would be a pain in the **** if P.R.E. was closed for good. I can tell you that there was many days I had to wait a while they were so jammed up.

gotta say from my experience that PRW is pretty good about keeping the lines at the minnow tank and cash register moving, no matter how many people are in there.

i second the recommendation on east end angler.  prices are a little higher than PR for bait, and not a great selection of terminal tackle for steelhead, but very nice guy and on the way if you're heading up 79 to the east side.  generous with the emerald shiners & they were lively all day long.  think they were certified vhs free too.  have been in presque isle angler too.  good prices and good service, but last i was there, no single, cured eggs.

Sounds like I'll be hittin the west side tribs more this year. I have never spent much time on the west side but I can't wait. What would be the best place to start out for a novice steelheader, upper nut, upper elk or the lower sections?

Just in case you make it to the east side mile creeks and a little update. The streams over here are very high and brown today. A light rain and quite big melt off. They do come down fast though.

My store (East End Angler) is located in between 4 mile and 7 mile right on Rt 5 just about across from Garys Superette.

Just opened up here, and just blew out a few walls to be able to offer more selection and new items in the store, with more on the way every week. Soon to be cleaning & smoking fish. Just got a 1500 gallon tank for minnows(so we don't run out in the summer) and a new tank in store soon for more minnows. Plus we will be stocking creek chubs, fat heads, small & large golden shiner along with certifited emeralds as they become available. Gary & Dot are great people and we do miss them. Hopefully soon we will be able to fill all your needs on the east side. Stop and say hello and have a free cup of coffee.

Never too much fishing. LOL!  Yeh, the east side  sucks.

I'll miss PR though. I won't drive to PR West to get fish smoked.
Hope East End starts smoking. Fish, that is, Kirk.

Fisher of men...Why would you post than any business that shut down is good ??? We fish out of North East all summer & P.R. East was the cats **** for convience. Appariently you've never had to stand in line there for a couple dozen crawlers & harness tape first thing in the A.M. in the summer. What were Gary & Dot thinking ??? I've ask Brian & he's clueless.

if you only fish the west side, you probably never even went into PR's east..therefore how would you know about its production? Everytime I went there, there would be another guy in there, sometimes even another guy standing around BSing with Brian...i dont know how you can say there wasnt much fishing over on the east side? if you added up all the guys on the mile creeks, it might be equal to the amount of guys on elk and walnut on some days...PR's east was great, a shame that it closed though...

Poor Richards East was nothing less than great. Brian and Jeff were very helpful and friendly. I'll miss them and the shop being quite new to steelhead fishing. What a fantastic game fish. A real kick in the butt for an old man!

i dock at n. east marina but always bought all
my bait & fishing gear at pr's, they were always
helpfull and had a great selection, you can get
some bait etc. at the marina but no selection
and lousy bait at higher prices,
     sure going to miss pr's

The nice thing about the steelhead fishery is that it helps to support bait shops year round, so that us lake fishermen have lots of choices come summer.  I see so many lakes elsewhere with heavy summer traffic and then comes winter and there go the shops.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

I'll 2nd that, Andy Daniels is a class act. The 1st  time we stopped early in the year he overloaded us w/shiners and threw in a dip net. Don't get any better than that... Dave
