Fly fishing legend passed away

I caught the fly bug for a little while when I was stomping through the Erie drainage ditches in the 90s early 00s. For a few years my fishing was 80%-90% fly swinging. Took up fly tying and still use for jigs and the legendary surf candy flies that I use as teasers. I had a bunch of fly tying and fly fishing books. The inventor of the Surf Candy and many others passed away. Bob Popovics. When work takes me to NJ, I always go to his home fishing grounds in Seaside Heights and Island Beach State Park. I never met the guy, but read a lot about him. He was a legend in that area. His Surf Candy patterns have caught me many fish. Thank you for your contributions to the angling community. Rest in peace.

    RIP Bob
...never really followed his stuff but another legend recently passed as well, John Gierach.  He was the author of many good fly fishing books that all revolved around his persona as "The Trout Bum"...

Sad hearing these guys pass. I look back at when I was getting into fly fishing and realized it is close to 30 years…. So, if those guys were 40-50 at the time. Yikes. I met Bob Clouser back then too. My buddy used to fish the Susquehanna in Harrisburg, took me to his shop. Which was a garage in a suburban home in Middletown, PA. A stones throw from Harrisburg Airport and TMI.
