I live in Virginia outside Washington DC, only experience I have with shad fishing is in the Potomac River. Not much opportunity to wade fish there though, only decent access is by boat or by shore in a few places. If you tried wading there, you'd be catfish bait.

What ever floats your boat, just keep it on your side of the lake...

I think they have a shad feast in new hope bucks co. every year.  Not sure when.  I have never fished for shad, so not too familiar with it.

Ive only fished in the delaware.Fun time.We used dart jigs.If they are running and you hit them right good times acomming .You cast the dart upriver. And reel in slowly .If you dont reel in it will snag.I dont know if you ever fished for them but super soft lips.Set the drag very light and play the fish.I use 6lb line and i was still tearing their lips.I set the drag like i had 3lb test on and what a blast. We fished by dingmens ferry(i dont know if i said that right)I live by nyc.I hope this helps out.

The darts worked really great.Very strange way to fish though. You should try it out,When they run im gonna try to make another trip to the delaware.Shad are very acrobatic fish.We caught some in the 5 pound range but i hear they get bigger.

LOL kick in the balls, hey i droped the gloves.5min for both of us.The clock is ticking, and the rangers are winning.I wounder if anyone tried tying a shad dart type fly. That would be stupid fun off a boat or pontoon.I hope to choke,I mean fish with you soon.We can invite the flyers to fish with us since they will have so much free time.

    Johnny:

Now you did it picking on my Flyers.  Once they get everyone back there will be trouble for your Rangers.  Especially that cheap shot artist Shawn Avery #16.
Used to fish for shad above Port Jervis on the N.Y. side of the Delaware.  You have to know when they are running to catch them.  They are caught all along the Delaware as they move upstream to spawn.  My best luck was with 6lb. test line, light drag, red/white or yellow/red shad darts w/white tail.  They do put on quite an acrobatic display once hooked.
No problem fishing from shore in the past, but many areas may now be restricted.  Haven't fished Port Jervis area for shad in 10-12 years.

I cant wait. Its not as much fun beating a team thats not healthy. We all have our "cheap shot artist"Avery is just better at it.The red darts with the white tail did the job for me as well.Im thinking 4 pound might be better.Havent had a lot of time fishing shad,And when we did catch them it wasnt during the major run just a small run.Good luck tonight againts the NYI.

eagle ed, thanks for revealing yourself, us Flyers fans have to stick together, especially when we are outnumbered by stinking penguins and ranger fans.
thanks for the shad info also.

If we are going to shad fish, we better organize something soon, I heard the strippers are already in the river, which means the shad are already here.
