shimano reels

i currently fish with sedona, sonora, sahara and symetre reels all made by shimano.  heard a few years ago that there were issues with the sahara reels.  i even had to take one back to gander mt. due to it seizing up.  i am in the market for a couple more reels and would like to buy a couple of saharas, but do not know if the issue has been resolved.  i called shimano on the west coast and they said they never heard about any problems.  any ideas on this?

I have both the Symetre and President and both are equally nice reels--but the Pfluegers are priced less for the quality you get.

The only trouble I've had were with the models that had the internal bail stop mech. Probally my fault though cause I would back spool the distance I wanted while trolling , then hit the anti reverse, Not smart I know but when the inside stop breaks , the reel is shot due to the piece being forged into the housing, **** near inpossible to even reel your line in after that due to the piece floating around inside the housing, Other than that, performed quite well for the price, Dont remember model # other than they were the "gold series.

Eat what you catch, troll for cows.

Nope i've had 2 saharas with no problems, i've also had three stradics with no problems other than wearing out from fishing them too much...

I have 2 Saharas one is about 5 years old, the other one is about 3.  I have never had any sort of trouble with either reel.  I don't use them a ton but they have treated me well so far, especially for the money.  I also have a symetre, it is about 3 years old and so far so good.  I would have to say both the symetre and sahara are great reels for the cash.  I don't think I would ever buy another spinning reel that was not a shimano.

thanks guys.  guess i will buy a couple more saharas.  for wading and casting, i use a symetre or a quantum kinetic or catalyst.  the newer reels will join my fleet of outfits for panfishing or drifting.  thanks for the input.

I like Shimano, but I got a cheap reel @ Harbor Freight last month and took it 2 times to the Yough for a try. 7+1 ball bearings and  for the half price sale @ $15.99 it was well worth it and I guess my girlfriend will be fishing it this trout season. My Stellas are off limits to her>LOL.. the reel hold 210 yards of 6lb test and only downside is there isn*t a bearing at line retrival. What do I expect for a $16 China reel....
