Haha. I'm not talking about drinking the whole bottle. 1 a period to sip on. Now once the Finals start, all bets are off.

Caps opened up the playoffs with a win lastnight, Let's hold suit and get this 1 - 0 series start. LETS GO PENS!

Yep. Swiss Cheese with a corner bit off it.

Pens looked slow and discombobulated. The amount of turnovers and missed passes. Yikes.

Hopefully it was some rust. If they lose on Tuesday, it's lights out I bet. Would love to be wrong.

An astonishing stat I saw lastnight is Pens are 1 n 10 in their last 11 playoff games. That is just terrible for a team with this caliber of players. I totally agree with DG, they lose tomorrow and it's lights out for the series.

I didn't get to see the game yesterday so I'm going to chalk it up to a long lay off and it being an early afternoon game( which they h ave always struggled with). On the bright side you cannot win or lose a series in the 1st game but will agree they need to win #2.

Didn't get to see it either, was in Filthadelphia watching my son play in a dek hockey tourney at the same time...unfortunately, his team lost in the semifinals but the consolation was, not having to play in a championship game at 630 pm on the other side of the state on a Sunday afternoon......and look fwd. to a 4+ hr drive.  Getting on the road at 4pm was much better....

I agree, if they lose #2, it will not be good.  Hopefully the Isles aren't their 1st round kryptonite again....

That is always my outlook on tournaments.  Hope for great play, get unlucky to miss the championship game, drive home at a reasonable hour!  Sprinkle in a championship win every so often is great too, especially if a closer tournament or if the game is earlier...

I watched the 3rd period and OT in between the kids games.  I am not a fan of the daytime games.  Kids' schedule conflict thing and not a fan of daytime drinking.  I don't mind if picnicking, pool or beach, but the day is pretty much over as soon as the first one is cracked.  They didn't look horrible and obviously could have went the other way.  Agree, Tuesday is must win.  Have my Wednesday schedule open for work, in case it goes into an evening OT, which usually adds a beer or two...

It was nice to sit back after the evening garden watering.....sipping on a few brews, watching the game.  Got to love playoff hockey.....
Only thing I can say is, WTH was Rust thinking????  At least they didn't get burned by it, this time.

That was rather insane to see a pro do, in the playoffs, with the other goalie pulled...

Yeah I laughed. Most playoffs, letang will throw a game with a boneheaded play. Was sure it'd be him. Was shocked to see Rust.

Yep, another great game and a great 3rd period....ran out of room in the sin bins......

Did you guys see Tavares' injury?  I thought I was watching someone dying on the ice when he tried to sit up and his eyes rolled back in his head...looking like he was struggling to breath.

Totally accidental on Perry's part....that game can be scary at times.

Didn't watch the other games , but I know that TB/FLA was a barn burner. I'll have to check out Tavarse injury. I'd say the Isle are going to be very desperate to win tomorrow night. I hope Jarry and The Pens are up for the task.

Was a pretty insane night of hockey. That Tavares hit was brutal. I'd be shocked to see him back in any capacity this year.

Pens can't play the dumb tough guy game with the Isles. It's what the isles want for sure.
Just beat them with skill, point at the scoreboard and go home after a win.

Thankfully, Varlamov sucks so it's possible to light him up like last night. The Boston/worshington series is a blood bath, can wait for the next games.

Tavares is out of the hospital and out indefinitely.

We'll be rooting for the Craps tonight. Drag that series out to 7 if possible. Anxious to see the crowd in Nashville also. Preds need all the help they can get right now and an early goal or two will go a long way in being able to take advantage of some home cookin. I look for crowds around the league to be as raucous as ever, except for Canada ofcourse. They are still playing in empty buildings.

Strap em on and buckle up baby. 2 down 14 to go.

Well, they really got their azz handed to them Saturday. The Islanders really know how to get under LeTangs' & Malkins skin to force them into penalties. At the first sign, Mike should bench them 'til they cool down. They ain't gonna win playin' 5 on 4 and 5 on 3.

Yeah it's just their way of playing the game. Both are too old to change it.
We said it before it even happened on this thread - only a matter of time until Letangs weak mental game will hurt them. Puts them down to a 4 on 3 with so much open ice, after getting momentum in a 2-0 game.  Happens every single year in some capacity. Sometimes it's a crappy clear, sometimes it's an unnecessary pinch in when you already have a lead, sometimes it's a laughable penalty. It's crazy to think how good he could have been if he could have gotten a handle on his mental game.

The Pens know what needs to be done. They've been here before, get whooped on and have to come back.
Be great to see them win tomorrow, and we get to see what the isles are really made of. Hopefully, they can get sorokin moving side to side, he seemed a bit slow on that. Varlmov is a trash goalie vs the Pens - if the isles play him they lose and they know it so.

Get the early lead and go from there.

Caps getting beat 4 in a row is still insane to me.
Oilers losing a 3 goal lead in the last 10 mins in the 3rd period, to then lose in OT and go down 3-0 in the series is like Cleveland Browns levels of comedy. Mcdavid is a fantastic hockey player, but his playoff failures are really putting a damper on this amazing part of his career.

Carolina cost me a sweet 3 teamer yesterday. Was getting 3.5 to 1. Almost hedged by single shooting Colorado, but that first game wasn't over intime. Oh well... Boston is just that strong. Washington looked like boys among men all 5 games. Pens will have their work cut out for them in the next round, that is if they can solve this rookie goaltender. We will have to wait and see.. Like I said before about #97, who has his Oiler team ever beaten???? Right now, Avs look to be the best team out there, with Tampa being a close 2nd.

So I have 2 WTF was that questions, on that last sequence.... #1 was there any reason Geno just watched that puck go by him at the point. #2 Jarry passed that puck right to that Islander. I know some of you watched, and sometimes I hallucinate, so I just needed an explanation. Thanks inadvance.

I saw what you saw...can't explain it, don't want to talk about it.....a couple more hours of my life wasted.
I think Jarry had tunnel vision, as the down ice look, you saw the Pens jersey at the other blue line...I think he had visions of getting a game winning assist and didn't see Bailey lurking....
Sarokin stood on his head the entire game....just one of those games...no puck luck for the Pens...esp. on the one deflection that should have sealed it for them....but it hit the clueless Sarokin in the pad instead of finding an opening...

I don't know why it's so surprising for Sorokin to be playing so well against Pittsburgh. I've seen this fish before. It's not like this is the first time a no name goaltender has done this. Healey in 93, Halak in '10 now this. Wednesday is going to be painful and nerve-wracking AF to watch.

Re: Hockey Talk '21 2021/05/27 02:14:57 (permalink)
Welp, that wraps up the season. Cool to win this special season's division title, but aside from that, another embarrassment and failure of a season. Penguins should be a 2nd round team at a minimum every single year, and to lose 3 year in a row in the first, in embarrassing fashion, should be ringing alarm bells.

Horrendous game by Jarry. Horrendous Series by him. If the pens have even slightly below average goaltending, they win easily. I believe that's one of the worst goalie performances in terms of goals allowed vs expected by a goalie in quite some time. (Saw a quote earlier, can't find the stat exactly but I believe Jarry was -8 on his expected goals, worst since Bryzgalov in Philly in 2014)

Crosby/Rust/Guentzel were horrible. Absolutely terrible all series. Combined -11. ELEVEN.
Pens carried the play for 90% of the series. Pens carried the game all night tonight. 3 lost leads.

I'm excited and hope Hextall/Burke make big time changes. Anyone not named Crosby should be on the table at this point.

The Pens are like Punxsutawney Phil. Summer is officially here when they get knocked out of the playoffs. At least we always seem to have an early summer.
