My son and I spent 6 hours on Conneaut yesterday. Another busted day of fishing, but at least it was a delightful day. Talked to two other guys out on the water who fish Conneaut quite often. They relayed that over the course of spring 'til now, they have boated and frozen 550 bluegills, but could not get a hit in any of their favorite spots. Two other guys managed only 3 bass for the same period of time. Conneaut is extremely weed choked, with the coon tail thriving beautifully, and the cabbage just starting to turn color. Couple that with lake grass and other underwater growths, it makes for some tough fishing. We found weed growth clear down to 20', as the water is very clear and allows light penetration down deep. For the rest of the lake, the Helix 7 shows nothing but a big (mostly) muck bottom, with some small clouds of bait fish down deep, but no hooks or arcs anywhere around. At one point I was coming out of 18' and the next second my motor is bucking and coughing in 8' 'cause the weeds grew up to just under the surface. Had to trim all the way up and untangle the mess from the prop. So, over the last 3 years and three trips to Shenango and two to Conneaut, I've done nothing but contribute money to the gas stations. If I repower (smaller) in the spring, I'll just stick to Lakes Author, Keystone, and the Allegheny River.

Ya there's prolly only 30 or 40 places in the main lake where that depth is. Lmao. I was thinking about going out again today, but I don't feel like getting cut in half by this wind. Nor do I want to run the electric up on 70 all day again🤮🤮.

My pontoon is put to bed for winter. I'm itching to go tho. I got a private Crappie pond in Slippery Rock I can hit. PM me if you get the itch to fish there with me for a few hours.

Nice! Next few days should be purdy good. The few times I've fished it the past 3 years the Panfish have been healthy. Heading to Pymy on Thursday for a week, might get out for a few hours.

Ya, I hear ya on the gear. I own every color, in 2 or 3 different style tails. I have a favorite color in Bobby Garland and I use maybe 2 more different colors. Why I have all that other stuff is beyond me🙄. Good luck with the perch. We will be dahn by da dam.

I saw that lastnight on the news. Little Chartiers Creek. Hope they get that cleaned up. Neighbors said the fumes and smell were so bad they had to leave their home. Also dead fish already turning up.

Yea it’s a real shame about that chartiers gas spill. There was a fish kill from fertilizer runoff over the summer too. It was further downstream, below canonsburg lake, and I think this gas spill is above it.
Chartiers creek is a decent little fishery as far as urban waters go. It gets pretty heavy sewage runoff after rain, but it still supports a pretty healthy population of fish. I floated the section from the lake to Boyce road a couple times a few summers back and it was surprisingly enjoyable. They might even stock trout in that upper section above the lake too.
I think they also just completed a pretty big AMD remediation project at some point along the creek, but I can’t remember exactly where. It’s not pristine trout water, but overall water quality has improved substantially over the last 30 years. Setbacks like these repeated chemical spills are just so sad and frustrating.

I knew going in, it was gonna be a short window on Pymie today. Was dead flat from 730 to 1030. Then that wind started right on schedule. Bounced out at 1115 We got 13. 3 10s, the rest were 12s and Maggs got this one. I think it's 13.5. She reefed up a bonus 11" perch too boot. With my other 2 teens giving Dad a hard time daily, I enjoy when me and my fishin Gal get out, no matter how long. Went solo today out Moriane. Wind and weather was very cooperative. I highly doubt there is gonna be any more days like today, until Spring. Brought home the last batch of the year. 25 more puts the freezer at quota level. No real brutes. Just typical 10 to 12s. Now I can get it ready for a winters nap.

Last time out was Nov. 9th at Conneaut. Seen a lot of gray oily crap drippin' out of the exhaust port and the prop on my Merc Classic 50 when I got back. Can you believe it? The exhaust manifold gaskets failed after only 34 years. What a piece of crap! (LOL, tongue in cheek). Don't really matter yet. What with the unpredictable weather and having to work in an unheated garage with a dirt floor, I guess I don't have to be in any hurry. I have the manifold off and I'm expecting the new gaskets today or tomorrow, then hope for the next 50 degree day to finish the job. We've been lucky with no ice so far, but the river is high and muddy. We fish year round weather & water permitting. If you can go for it, tight lines.

I took a look at the Freeport launch yesterday and was surprised to see the cement anchor about 6" out of the water but covered with mud. With all that rain last weekend and as high as the river was I didn't expect it to be fishable 'til this coming weekend. The borough will blast the mud off the ramp and the anchor block and probably get the dock in this week.

Monthly CPR to this thread
For the past three weeks I've been fishing below Dam 4 on the Allegheny. June 4th, I lost count of how many walleyes I landed right in front of the lock vertical jigging with a minnow. The following week, I was picking them off trolling around the Tarentum bridge with Bay Rat crank baits. Yesterday trolling around the Tarentum bridge, the catfish wanted the Bay Rat's and the walleye wanted the crawler harness.
If the weather is nice I'll be fishing Erie next weekend, if the weather isn't nice I will be shopping at Poor Richards, FishUSA and one of the firework stores on the state line.

Me and my oldest boy hit pool 7 today. Put in at Cowanshanok Creek and motored straight up to Number 8. Jigged around both sides; lock side and power plant. 2 little catfish. Working our way back down, we tried harnesses for a while but then went back to jigs. No cranks. Couple of smaller walleyes around and under the train bridge, then continued back down toward the barge cove. Got a hit and set the hook and when it came up far enough to see it I thought it was a channel cat as it appeared silvery about 3 feet down. Turned out to be an 18" blue walleye. I'd never even heard of a "blue walleye" and I've been fishin' the Allegheny for nearly 63 years. My son said he's caught a couple of them in Canada. I know about walleyes, saugers, and saugeyes, but not a "blue walleye". What are they? A hybrid? A genetic disorder? Anybody know and have you ever caught one? Just askin'. BTW, my boy snapped a pic and the fish was released.
