With the onset of 19 variables and some lingering doubt about the long term benefit of our present vaccines on them as well as the term benefit  on the original strain I think masks will be around for a while.
Agree about  wearing of masks  in far east countries has been commonplace long before 19 came along.

My opinion on the coronavirus is that I'm absolutely sick of hearing old people whining constantly. Constantly. It's like they think they're the only people on the planet. It's just weird. And pathetic. And getting very annoying. It's like they don't realized that doing things like crossing state lines to go to a multiple household gathering at a restaurant is not directly correlating to things like...I don't know.... Cancelled high school football seasons or some other random thing. Just stay the f home. And shut the f up. You're old and retired. You're in the best possible position to help all of humanity get through this quicker. All this is just too protect you old dying people anyway And all the old idiots do is just whine and whine about how everyone is being so unfair to THEM. I just don't get how old, financially comfortable retired people feel the need to play victim. It's just a bunch of BS. Wah wah wah. Masks are uncomfortable. The opinion news man lied to me. Wah wah wah. Why? Shut up. Stay home. Maybe go fishing or something. I have work to do. I can't stay home. I can't afford it. I have to wear a mask. It's company policy. And I happen to be a decent human being. And if have to go through another summer wearing the stupid mask all day every day sweating my butt off and hardly able to breath, I'm gonna freaking lose it. That is all.

Stay off elevators. They're not for decent human beings like you.

cdc released some fairly encouraging news on people who are fully vaxxed getting covid earlier this week. 5800 out of 66 million.  7% hospitalized and 74 deaths.

"To date, no unexpected patterns have been identified in case demographics or vaccine characteristics . . ." which I would assume means the very sick and elderly where vaccine effectiveness was kind of a question mark anyway.

Those numbers are really encouraging.  Being a new study, it should be capturing the effectiveness of the vaccines on the latest variants.

Hearing this, I am pretty confident that we'll all be pretty safe to throw Memorial Day gatherings.  Hopefully common sense returns to people and stay home if feeling sick...

Im in the hospital right now for something not covid related. If your changing departments or floors they have you take a rapid test. Basically only require you to wear them in the hallways except faculty they wear them constantly. Havnt seen a single double mask yet and ive been in here since Thursday. Hospitals at close to full capacity but i guess it usually is. Ive never been in sharon regional before so i dont know how packed they get but according to the night nurse its about normal even with the covid stuff

Just as i was having a banner year on walleye diverticulitis hits. Just some changes to my diet and i should be fine. Really surprised me how relaxed they are about the virus here but i guess if everyones tested and the positives are isolated it makes sense

Hope you are doing well.

This is one of the major reasons why public health officials are as overly cautious as they are.  This is the case with most hospitals in the US.  They build the actual buildings to be something like 80% capacity under normal expected conditions, so they aren't paying for empty rooms during construction, heating/cooling those rooms, lighting those rooms, furnishing those rooms, cleaning those rooms, etc.  They run out of space rather quickly when there are surges of anything that requires hospitalization.

A lot has been opined here about he wearing of masks and weather or not we should still be wearing them _ I do.
Frankly though after likely  having the 19 a bit over a year ago and having received my shots a couple of months back I am immune and only wear the mast to make those around me feel comfortable.
That and- of course- the familiar no mask no service signs that actually should likely read masks required for those w/o their shots.
As we likely approach the coveted 'herd immunity' this summer perhaps things will change.
The BS dem narrative of those one toothed T supporters being the only ones not wearing them are getting more insulting as time goes on and have only served to widen the political divide by showing their downward  superiority complex- keep it up - mid terms are coming.

What am I missing here? From what I understood was that wearing your mask helps protect the people around you if you have the virus. Also from what I understand, is that even if you are vaccinated doesn't necessarily mean that you cant be a carrier of the virus. So the idea of wearing your mask isnt to protect you, it's to protect everyone else? is that a correct assumption? I know the experts been all over the map.

My question/observation is that if one is immune how can they carry  the virus-its dead in them if in them at all-
Thats the whole purpose of herd immunity -is it not?
They coulda been exposed to it but when we get a flu shot and are considered immune do we pass it around  to others anyhow if we were near an exposed person ?????
Perhaps on your clothing on your posessions -if the virus exists that way- but not on your breath after all its not capable of being  in you.
Your right- they have been all over the place to the point of being generally not even considered all that reliable any more.
Remember wiping down the groceries -till they turned around and said oops ya dont have to do that any more cause it doesnt transmit that way like we thought.

The "expert" Fauci says you can  be asymptomatic and spread the virus to others.  If the vaccine works, your T-cells and antibodies will have destroyed or contained the virus.  I wish he would explain where he gets his ideals.  Either they work or they don't.  I know the government wouldn't lie to us.

It's not an immunization shot, its a vaccination shot. Something like they pump your body with some sort of protein that will trigger your own antibodies to fight the virus off. So yes, I believe, you can still get the virus even after being vaccinated.

The nurse here told me that the vaccination keeps you from developing symptoms but you still can carry the virus. Or at least making the symptons mild enough you dont notice.

Re: Coronavirus opinions 2021/04/17 15:24:02 (permalink)
It was explained to us (for Pfizer vaccine) that the vaccine is intended to teach your immune system to recognize, and react, to the virus much quicker to keep it from running rampant through your system. You can still become infected with the virus but you may be asymptomatic or only have very mild symptoms for a shorter period as your body gets rid of it but you CAN transmit the virus to others.  This is why I continued to be super careful even after being vaccinated, not to avoid illness myself but to avoid inadvertently transmitting it to someone else.

This is my understanding as well. I am not sure how long it takes your body to recognize that it is infected, trigger the immune response to develop antibodies and those antibodies then destroy the virus. From my understanding, the virus is primarily in your respiratory system, so would be contagious while breathing, talking or coughing, until your body killed all of the viruses in your system.

Well, daughter's last Vball tourney may be cancelled for her team this coming saturday.   Just found out her coach tested positive.  Kicker is, she has been fully vaccinated for over a month so she is a breakthrough case.   She also coaches the boys vball team and they had an outbreak of 5 players and is likely where she was exposed.

Unfortunately we had something similar with our school.  A teacher tested positive after getting the vaccination.  I'm not sure if she was past the two week window of max effectiveness or not.  I hope your daughter gets to play. Good luck.

CDC says if you have vaccine, you can go outside without mask, except crowded area. Besides the vaccine portion, wasn’t that already the recommendation? That is pretty much what I have been doing since last April and just about everyone that I have noticed.

I wonder if any decisions being made in India, have ties to their nation being overpopulated and limited resources?  Overpopulation has been a major concern for their nation for a long time.  I would not be shocked if they find that many of these deaths could have been easily prevented, but the government chose to look the other way.

The caste system is alive and well in that country.  I wouldn't be surprised.  I'm assuming that not many medical interventions are making it into the vast slums that comprise millions of people in some of their cities.

I would be willing to wager that there is a good bit of disinformation being fed to those most vulnerable as well.  Some might find parallels in our worlds largest economy...
