Here's a shocker. The previous administration had ZERO distribution plan in place. Guess its better starting from scratch than having to fix someone's screw up. 100M shots in arms in 100 days is the plan. Lets revisit this around the end of May.

Unfortunately for PA seniors, college students are in the same priority???  I wonder if lobbying had anything to do with that?

currently on pace to hit about 90% of that goal if nothing at all changed.  averaging around 900K shots a day now, and that was with most states rightly prioritizing health care workers and nursing homes, which are a limited pool.  now that pools of recipients are growing larger, it shouldn't be too difficult to ramp that up, and 100M is certainly better than 90M.

if you're referencing cnn's claim today that the biden administration has to start from scratch because there was no plan, fauci threw cold water on that pretty quickly.

florida has now given at least the first jab to 17% of its 4.5 million seniors.  65% of their total vaccinations so far have gone to those who are 65 and older.

west virginia has 16% of its seniors and 36% of their total has gone to 65+.

mississippi, texas, alaska, tennessee and north carolina not far behind among states reporting their numbers.

My wife received her second dose yesterday.   She said that the highest immunity levels occur a week after the second dose.  I said, "What do you mean?"  And she said that the 95% effective immunity rate is based on that time period.  And I said, "What does that mean, isn't it effective all the time once you get both doses?"  And she said, they don't know.  To which I quietly stated, "WTF?"

Maybe this is a known thing  and maybe my wife's statements were wrong but I was a bit let down.

Congrats Jigs--
Ldd as i understand it the immunity times are short because they have only been giving the shots for a short time and are therefore unable to give long lasting stats.
Guess we will have to wait and see ow long they really last.

Right, makes complete sense, didn't really occur to me that the immunity could be a very short period.

ldd -

like many things covid related there is a wide gulf between the messaging of public health officials and doctors/researchers working in the real world with real people and real data.

vaccine efficacy and duration is no exception. the public health messaging will catch up with real life science and data eventually.

good news from some studies now that we are many months past trials. vaccines are showing that they produce robust and long lasting immune responses in most participants. however the response seems to be less robust and shorter lived in those 70+ so they may need it more often.

Hey - I would be Ok with it even if it becomes an annual thing like the flu shot.
No long lines or appointments with flu vaccinations as ya can get it over a long period of time at so many locations.

Heck if all those grocery store and pharmacy locations all opened up along with senior centers and govt health clinics with Covid vacs there likely wouldnt be long lines or appointments needed for this either.

A co-worker had covid just before the Thanksgiving Holidays. He still can't smell or taste. But week before last, his testicles swelled more than twice their size, (made it tough for him to even walk). He had ultra sounds and a cat scan; no tumors or cancer. Lasted about a week and just as suddenly, the condition receded. He questioned his doctor, who really couldn't explain the cause, but the doc said he had 3 previous cases and in each case, the patient had had covid. Did anybody else hear about this? I read a lot and either I've missed it or just haven't seen this on the net being associated with covid.

Short of a full lockdown do you see that statement as realistic or doomsday??

100% realistic

but it sure is a complete 180 from his campaign promises and messaging, just three days into his administration. so much has changed since 1/20 on messaging and practice from public health officials and politicians. dc, michigan, chicago just a few of the glaring examples. world health organization guidance on dialing back cycle thresholds in pcr testing and confirming initial test with a second and clinical diagnosis. all within an hour of the inauguration.

all of a sudden it’s like we’ve got a whole new covid reality from public health officials and politicians. i mean i’m glad for it but let’s not pretend like the science and data has magically changed this week from what it’s shown the previous ten months.
