Minnesota fishing????

I'm looking into take a trip next year to minnesota to fish.  My buddies getting married and instead of a regular bachelor party wants to taking a fishing trip.  I've been looking into it lately and just curious if anyone on the forum has any experience on fishing the land of 10,000 lakes and maybe make a few suggestions or any advice on where to go, not go, whatever..  P.S. mainly looking to fish walleye, muskie and pike... Thanks in advance...

    avidangler,
The southern art of the state is fairly flat with numerous puddles and small lakes some moving water but mostly bug water.   The northern part of the state has more topography with trout, pike and walleye fishing in abundance.  But there is a BUT.  To get really good 'eye' fishing you have to get away from the easy access points.  If the bachelor party is one day maybe.  If you have three or more then yahoo!

Probably northern part of the state and it will probably be a 5 to 7 day vacation. Thinking rite now about the rainy lake region.  Its what he wants to do not so much myself, i prefer fishing upstate new york and know that region alot better.

I was going to say Rainy Lake. I looked into the renting a house boat for a week and tow the fishing boat behind. I have fished Whitewater State park about 30min from Rochester. It is a great place with abundant trout.

I worked on rainy lake for 3 summers and fished it everyday...
what do you want? eyes? pike? smallies?
    what time of year?

you best jump off point is international falls...rent a house boat and crusie the lake...
it is a very unique lake, since everything other lake has the basic structure of a bowl... not rainy.. it can go from 4 feet to 80feet in a drop
it is hell on boat props

i have links/maps/people to talk to if you are interested...

depends on how early in May???
there is still some ice till May 15th usually... especially with the COLD winter they have been getting this year

it will be hard fishing that early
best time is late summer/ sept... feeding up for the winter and in the shallows

i never did that well for musky... but pike are a different story...
I still have a scar on the back of my hand from one of those toothy critters...

This past summer i fished musky at mille lacs. it was a good time had 7 followers,1 miss and landed 1 42''. seen school of 100+ fish of walleye in less than 6 foot of water, that was being followed by a large musky. good times. If you have a large boat that would be a good lake, best way to compair the lake is like lake erie. the waves pick up very fast and they are choppy like erie. honestly i do not think you can go wrong anywhere in MN from what i have seen of the state.

Muskies goona be the big thing for him, thats what he wants to catch.  I catch a few each year bass fishing the river and pike we annihilate in upstate new york, and the walleye are very adundant down here all fall winter and spring so its no big deal to me, i prefer the pike anyhow.  I have a boat but was looking to get away from hauling it that far to fish only 3 days. I'm trying to talk him into a longer trip but he seems to want no part of it at the moment.. We may have to settle for presque isle bay and tamarack lake with his time restrictions on aloud being gone...
