elk creek acess launch

I used to use the elk creek access  to launch my boat but it has been quite a few years since I have been there. Can anyone tell me what kind of shape its in and is it still a good launch to get out in the lake with a smaller boat? Thanks for any info

I will have to check with one of the folks in our campground that uses it regularly. He goes out in a 16 or 17 ft aluminium with a relatively flat bottom and a 9.9 motor. He hasn't mentioned any problems this year but that can change weekly depending on water levels bringing in debris and gravel...

Not sure how the ramp area is but the mouth is "good" this year fairly wide and deep.
But as always at Elk logs are around and shifting positions with every blow.
Seen boats going out regularly just use caution...WCW

The water is really high you can launch there but the dock is flooded so your gonna get wet but it’s really deep now.

Wow great photo! Think just a few years ago (maybe even last year), a photo of elk creek mouth was posted and it was only just a trickle. Glad to see some water pushing thru! Curious to see if the extra flow will help more fish find their way back to the creek!

I have been out a dozen times or so tried a lot of different things.
did a little casting of EDs but mostly dragging cranks and EDs around I have 2 rod holders so I run 2 lines usually a Bandit and an ED.
Its challenging from a yak a lot going on in a small space and the fish spin and pull you around as you fight them.Caught a bunch of catfish in June they were fun to catch they hit anything with a crawler on it.
Id rather have a boat but I am happy with what I have caught in the yak its been an adventure...WCW

WCW, don't forget to stop in to FishUSA for all your yak needs. Not sure if you were able to see the new Kayak Fishing Outpost. If not, stop in soon!

You have pedals on that yak or just a paddle?  A Hobie or similar with pedals would make trolling in that rig pretty nice, plus great exercise....

Wish I lived closer to Erie, would probably do the same thing....

Keep the pics/updates coming.

No I don't have pedals just paddle its not easy fishing 2 rods with paddle when you reel in a fish you turn side ways so unless you want the other line wrapped up you have to reel and paddle a little to keep yak straight.
I bought yak used and added a few things I got about $600 in it...those peddle yaks are pricey I cant see spending over $1000 on a yak might as well buy a used boat some guys spend up to $3000 on yaks they are nice but...WCW

I know what you mean...some of the guys I fished with in TX invested in those.  Made the trips 3-5 miles offshore in the gulf to fish the nearshore rigs much nicer for them.  They could really get a good pace going to reach the rigs and usually fast trolled a ribbonfish and/or a large plug behind them and would pick up kinds or spanish macks on the way out to the rigs..

You can get a Pelican Catch 130 with Hobie's pedal drive system, since the patent for Hobie expired. The pelican kayak is only $1500, so good bit less than a Hobie.

Do you carry a handheld gps to see how fast you are paddling? Kind of curious how fast you have to paddle to get the lures to dive down deep enough to reach the walleye. Seems like paddling constantly would wear you out pretty fast.

I have Navionics app on phone that shows speed but I don't use it much.
I run around 2mph usually but theres a lot of stop and go in it and I get a lot of hits on the pause...it doesn't have to be an exact science there a lot of hungry fish out there.
Its a workout for upper body going out and paddling for hours but I don't mind it definetly not for everyone.
Again you need good conditions which is rare ...if theres a little chop it takes more effort to paddle.

Line counting reels/trolling rods? Levelwinds? or just spinning gear? I agree with good conditions, I only have a Pymy special, 16 footer with 20 hp motor, and live 90 miles south of Erie, so I really have limited days/time to go try it...but been itching to go up and give it a go.

No fancy poles for me just spinning rods...basic fish finder is a must in my opinion.
Lake Erie don't behave often I am lucky to have flexible schedule...Walnut buoy and cam is helpful the cam gives short vid clips every hour ... https://v2.wqdatalive.com/public/55
Good Luck if you give it a try and BE SAFE...WCW

Took a look at it this evening...
Its 10 ft wide and 3 ft deep saw 2 boats go thru it but it was tight and 1 hit his prop.
Definitely getting narrower and shallower.
