Having rented beach houses up and down the coast I would have to say Emerald Isle is my favorite. My favorite place to eat is close to the aquarium in Ocacroak. Some shack on the water that you can see through the walls. Real rickety place but the seafood is the best.

OMGosh ripin thanks for the memories of Okracoke and the eatery's. It was worth the ferry ride out to the island just for the food.

Plywood shacks built on stilts and one of our favorite's had the best "Artichoke Dip".

Speaking of sea food, we'd hoot and holler everytime we would see the billboards "Get Your Crabs at DirtyDicks".

Thanks for the memories.

Once you submit a reply you cannot delete the post (page). Always gonna be a copy of your pages and/or PM's lurking about.

You can however, do an 'edit' allowing you to change what you wish but still, cannot leave a blank page so insert a emoji (or sumpthin) and resubmit.

BeenThereDoneThat.memories of Okracoke

My memories of Okracoke are of some self-important ****canoe "Border Agent" hassling me about my papers while simultaneously acting like the ferry back to Hatteras was express train to Moscow and dancing all over the bones of the 4th Amendment.  The result was me wanting to break both her legs and watch flocks of seagulls peck out her eyes in the hot sun.

TL;DR - vacations are relaxing

Man, the dudes that fish those Wednesday night bass tourneys are a special kind of dooshes aren't they?  Never been there when one was starting, but my 9 year old and I weren't far from the 528 launch yesterday evening at blast off.  Fishing on shore.  We were into a good mixed bite of channel cats and fun sized bass.  Nothing epic, but a fun way to kill a few hours with him.

Two of these tool bags zoom right over to where we're at and start pounding the shorelines on either side of us, just about 5' farther than I could cast.  Shut that bite down real quick.

Hope they got busted props and caught nothing.

Just like anything, a few bad apples in what I would at least assume, are mostly good guys.  Throw competition into anything, and will usually cloud the judgement on some of the good guys.  By far, the biggest jerks that I have run into at Arthur, are the bass tournament bad apples.  Many of the others, I at least chalk up to not being around fishing enough to know common courtesy to the fellow angler.  These guy are a special type of jerk.

Come to Shenango with no horse power limit to see the real bass fishing jerks.  Racing across the lake full throttle with those 150 hp engines stop make 10 casts and race the opposite direction ....do this about 10 times an hour and maybe catch 1 bass ! .....lol

That's the way it use to be Pork, just a few bad apples but unfortunately, birds of a feather flock together and now it seems, just a few good apples.

Looked to be 30 ish boats and only two were jagoffs. To me anyway.

Didn’t see what they were running, but they ran in full throttle till they were about 75 feet away from us and threw wake well onto the shore where we had some gear sitting.

If I had been alone, I’d have just shaken my head. Amazing that some adults are so inconsiderate around a kid trying to catch a few fish.

I’m sure there are some good dudes in the bunch. Probably most of em actually.

I've talked to plenty of the tournament guys at the launches.  Some good guys, at least seem to be, for the 2-3 minute conversations with them at the staging areas.  Some real tool bags at the launches too.  Cut you off to get their boat out first, then stage at the launch...  Again, I can understand the dipstick with the brand new pontoon, 5 kids and 10 grandkids, with maybe 3 push button rods to share, that looks to be the first time doing things.  The tournament guys with as much in gear as their boat cost and appear to fish 2-3 times per week, really should know boater etiquette by now.  Some people are just about themselves only.  Ignorance seems to be an accepted thing now days, only going to get worse.

👍👍👍 Beautiful Dave.

I'm thinkin the more the exposure on the web, of the 'tool bags', maybe the fishing clubs will take more interest in policing their own.

Pretty sure B.A.S.S. (or any organization) wouldn't want "bad publicity" generated from a local chapter regarding "sportmanship".

Sponsor's would just love free publicity when they see their business name associated with a slob.

Nor does the PFBC (if that still exist🤔) want bad publicity for issuing "needed permits" to fishing clubs that promote slobs on the water.

There are rules regarding "good sportsmanship" that are to be followed (if that still exist🤔) when applying for a permit.

Sooo get them 'smart phones' rollin and them vids posted to FaceBook & Youtube and don't forget to tell the story of who, when, where & why.

If "a picture is worth a thousand words" just think what a video is worth.

P.S. Don't forget to post a link on the forums.

They've been fairly easy to catch this week.  We usually do pretty well in May and early June on 'em, but were shut out this spring.  Wednesday was the first time we targeted them since then, and some smaller channels were smashing the 2" Gulps he was throwing for gills to cut up for bigger cats.  Kinda funny when yer trying to catch bait and start getting your target species!

Both of those ^ were caught about 10-15' out from shore on cut gills.

We've had some good outings at Arthur the last few weeks catching a wide variety of fish.  He even fought a 40"+ ski last week that he somehow managed to keep hooked for about 5 minutes on 6# mono and a 1/16 oz jig head.  Got it juuuuusssstttt out of the reach of the net 3 or 4 times before the line broke.

I am a fan too as well as other plastics. But definitely times that they only want live. Usually when I didn’t stop for minnows...

Dead Sea report... 5 hours, 2 bluegills. Couldn’t find mr whiskers or any willing perch/crappie. Kids sports season is underway. Will have to burn vacation to get out in the next 2.5 months. Which means, fishing likely to be on fire soon!

The oldest and I were on Arthur for 5 hours today. We trolled cranks and harnesses with live crawlers, we casted cranks, and we jigged with Gulp tips, but we had no takers; not a single hit. Somebody on this forum would say "Stupid fish"! Offering them the best of baits and they don't want it.

Never try to argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

http://butlerradio.com/tourism-bureau-looking-for-boat-drivers-for-tv-show/

The Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau is looking for a couple volunteers to drive boats when a TV crew comes to town.
The internationally-televised show “Fishing University” will be filming two episodes next week at Moraine State Park and Glade Run Lake.

The show needs two volunteers to serve as boat drivers for the camera crew. You would need to provide your own, small boat- which must have a trolling motor to quietly follow the guys around while filming.

Filming will take place at Glade Run Lake September 10 and 11.

The bureau says “special incentives” will be provided for those who volunteer. You should contact the tourism bureau if you’re interested.

“Fishing University” has been around for 32 years and is a “how-to” fishing program. Pro-fisherman Charlie Ingram and Ray Brazier are the hosts.
