Yes. 4-6 AM will not be happening lol.
I have caught them this time of year when fishing for other stuff. Maybe I'll get lucky. Heading out in a few hours weather permitting.

Catching of untargeted fish makes for some wonderful memories.
Fishing 4-6AM do not. I don't play well, with others.... Before sunrise. π΄
ummm come to think of it, for me, just catching a fish makes for wonderful memories.π³

Thought about stopping for minnows on the way up but rain was threatening and decided not to waste the time. Water temp around 62. Put the new boat through its paces first and then got down to business. Threw some lures at various shorelines hoping to get lucky before I got too wet. I didn't. Skunked. An ignominious beginning to the season but to be fair I only had a little time
Nobody seemed to be catching anything. Couple guys at Porters Cove came back with a fair catch of 12-13" crappie and two keeper wipers. Caught on jigs...with minnows.
Ugh...fishing...

We got a few crappie and perch. It was slow until the 1/2 hour or hour of hot bite with the crappie that stopped as fast as it started. We tried focusing on walleye for much of the trip and ended up with a few perch for the effort. A bit too windy for my trolling preference. Will try that more the next time out.

The weather man said 4-6 mph wind, so I used the Arthur Factor and multiplied by 6. Sounds like that was about right. Fishing buddy bailed on me and I was too lazy to get out the floating tub. Maybe next weekend.

That wind calculation seems fair! It was fine when going in a cove. Main lake wind was pushing us over 1mph on GPS.

Made it out Sunday after the to do list complete, only managed one eye and dropped another fish that was an eye or catfish. Also caught a few nice perch. Going to be interesting to see the impact of not stocking eyes in 15 and 16 have on the fishing this year.

I agree with that Moses. Especially after 100s (of the same year class, 17 to 22") got one way tickets to the hot oil last season. I do wonder what kind of year it will be this time around.

I could be wrong, but I think in 15 or 16 they weren't supposed to stock them. But a friend of mine happened to pull into the bear run launch one morning and they were stocking them out of a tanker truck. He said it looked like a giant ball under the water. But yes, I didn't catch any shorties last year either.

Here is the list straight off the WW/CW page on PFBC. What I have found out with PFBC, while the might not have stocked in 2015 or 2016, if they had a great egg hatch and have a bit of a surplus, they will dump some in a lake, but not update the stocking page. So it is possible that the lake got a small amount of walleyes in '15-16.

π± the PFBC do something and not inform the public...... never heard of such a thing by our public servants. But who knows..... there has been a sudden influx of certain 'bait fish' over the past years, in area lakes where these 'bait fish' never flourished 30 years ago. Probably a surplus of eggs..... huh?π

I have not caught a short eye the last two years. Three years ago we caught a pile of them and years prior to that we always caught at least a few. Others I talk to have similar results.

Welcome to the PFBC Inland Walleye Program Lake Arthur fishermen....it sucks! Plan and simple it's the cutting back of Walleye stocking. Shenango Lake is on a Walleye stocking diet also, but at least they continue the Striper stocking ...for now. Probably next on the chopping block! Seems all these lakes are turning into panfish potholes ! Pymy is still the headquarters for Walleye and Musky stocking ......the rest get the crumbs.

Those walleye just jump in your boat at Arthur. Your issue is fishing for them!
I have caught maybe 10 in the last 20 years. 2 of them targeting them. Granted, I have no issue when one wants to intercept my wiper offering. There are definitely times that I know that my odds are better for that interception. But still a much better chance for Mr Broken line side. Even when I βwalleyeβ fish, I end up catching more wipers than eyes (catfish/perch/bluegill too)...

Mixed bag yesterday. Water temp around 62. Got bait and settled in around dark.
Picked up several smaller catfish and an ungodly amount of turtles. Also caught a monstrous female crappie on an alewife--Im convinced even the bear and deer eat those things. She was still loaded with eggs.
Cold front moved in and the temp dropped rapidly. Got off the water right as the rain started. Wipers didn't show.
Few guys at the launch had a cooler full of slabs caught in 12 fow on jigs. Guess they are still in pre-spawn pattern.
Maybe next weekend for the wipers!

Thanks for the report. This is why I don't catch spring crappies in Arthur. I ~NEVER~ fish 12 fow. Well, not never but never for crappies. Actually now that I say that, I can think of several likely good spots to try. :) Need to get back out there before they scatter. But first I have to clean the ones we caught yesterday.

There is a walleye tournament out of Espyville tomorrow starting at 6 AM. But where you go with the tub shouldn't be where walleye guys are. I'm leaning towards Pymy as well, but heard of a near shore walleye bite on Erie...and wave forecast looks do able near shore. Decisions, decisions.
