I notice those pros never hunt Pa........too much competition.... something they can't handle.
Those staged hunting shows are bad as Progressive ad commercials....boring !

Hey but where can you see a good looking babe, with nails, makeup, hair done perfect and shooting bigger deer than I've ever seen.lol I did once see a trophy deer hunt in Pa but..... it was a canned pen hunt on a deer farm. I've asked some pro hunters to come to Pa. but the only answer I got was maybe or possibly in the future. Anyone of us could kill a TV buck. Just have a good buddy land owner in the white tail industry give you a call, and set you in the right stand after reviewing several cameras all summer. Then we all could say,I'm here in Iowa hunting hard, been here 2 days and I just shot a beautiful 180 class deer. We got it done now on to Illinois. lol One TV hunter bragged about getting 1000 inches of bone in one season. That's about 7 deer over 150"in one year.I'm still looking for a 150" buck, been hunting 54 years and 4 states an the best I can get is 2 140's . I suck, little Taylor Dury get 5 a year.lol

I have seen some awesome bucks killed the last few years in NW PA. Stop and see the bucks our local taxidermists in the Venango Co area are getting in. If we had the old hunter population no tree stands and the junk boots us old timers grew up with keeping us moving I believe them big boys would be in trouble. Lots of them are getting a free pass these days with no pressure. Makes it kind of exciting having a good chance of Mr Big at any time. I have seen some dandy bucks the last few years. My hunting group harvested three 9 pts. two tens all 17 in outside and better.
Big Tuna, 140 bucks are real respectable fair chase bucks. I have hunted 53 years and shot couple 130+ but nothing making 140. Ten pt this year is approaching 120, which needed a year or two.

So how do you guys fell about the Saturday opener, lol.

Some polling shows that our oldest hunters oppose 3 to 1. The younger the hunters gets, they are more likely to support this change. For 40 year olds it is 55/45 opposed.

Where are these numbers coming from? If they do start on Saturday does that mean where gaining a day of gun season to 13 days instead of 12 ?

During the working group meeting, the PGC went over surveys regarding hunter support of a Saturday opener. Yes, opening on Saturday would add a day to our existing season structure.

Did the same folks that β€œcreate” the harvest numbers calculate these as well?

Just kidding.

Could not care less what they do at this point.

Wouldn't make a difference to me personally what day they started.

PGC recipe for  bigger bucks in Pa. ....
Allow 650,000 deer hunters to leave or quit in ten years. ( greatest help ! )
Increase of posted land as much as possible by private owners. ( helps a lot  )
Add restrictions on antlers so even less bucks are shot at or killed. ( helps big time ! )
Make separate antler restrictions for different areas to confuse hunters more. ( helps a lot )

....as they say it's working !.... I guess it should be...Da !......LOL

How did these west Pa. bucks below ever make it before antler restriction's and a million hunters ! ?????

If we only had the internet and I phones years ago ....you would be surprised what roamed the woods !

Merry Christmas all !

CRAP Cap, hope you got copy rights on those pictures. I wouldn't doubt they've been reposted already, showing the buck kill for 2018 as being successful. lmao

In other matters.... nice deer and fine looking mounts too.

50+ here. Not a fan of the possible change from Monday to Saturday opener. Spin it however you wish. I don't have the answer to increase recruitment, but adding opportunities for those that are already participating isn't growing our ranks.

All of these new proposals are nothing more than putting a band-aide on a wound that requires stiches if hunting is to remain a viable wildlife management tool in the future.

Sunday hunting would definitely bring more interest into hunting PA. For example; my nephew loves hunting ( he's 14 ). He was only able to get out for skirls on 1 saturday and took the Monday off for buck and the last friday off for buck and doe. He has other interest like wrestling and lacrosse which tie up his Saturdays. Kids like hunting but arent necessarily gung ho like Uncle BH.

Young today certainly are tied up in multiple pursuits. Sunday hunting might help keeping them interested. Put the Buck opener on Saturday might interfere with extra curricular activities. A lot of schools still close on the opener of Buck and that would end that. Wonder what that change would spawn.

Seriously... kids "today", are so busy with extracurricular activities there is no time to hunt?? I'll be darned, so that's wassup, with the young folk??

Gee.... I wonder, what might be, the difference between today and the days of yesteryear?

Hmmm, I'll be darned if I can think what the difference is. Except maybe.... just maybe it's not "really" about the young people but more about older people, wanting to further their own agenda, to get more hunting time or the ease of getting a name, in a record book.

Take, for example, how well the AR's are working... for somebody somewhere.

Extra-curricular activities are no different today then it was "back in the day" except then, a young person could make a choice and decide, what was more important to themselves.

So be it choose to play sports or merely passing a 3" spike in hopes of a "record book rack" it once came down to making a personal choice. A/K/A making a sacrafice, the ultimate learning experience.

Sports are year round these days, btdt.  Big difference.  Yeah, the youngins can make a choice but most won't choose the outdoors as their top choice.   I'm trying to find a balance for my two.  Got them out some this year and still hoping to get them out some for late archery.  Asked my daughter if she wanted to go out for an evening sit last night and she declined.  After all the holiday running, she just wanted to veg out....can't blame her.
