Reading low end reports every day this season except the 3 days I fished.
Seems to me that the big run  and huge fish that early gossip predicted is unfounded to date and the season is progressing---( big pre run  excitement seems to happen regularly over the years)
A nice trickle of fish- IMHO- is about whats happening-but NOT any kind of record breaker as yet and not a year of large proportion  to date.
A big push for a couple of days can change that but time is passing- fish are now starting to spawn- even in DSR.
Hope something happens as am gonna be up next week with a son and friend.
Hope is eternal for we sportsmen but as we all know after a certain point its pointless  - LOL.
Fish in the river- of course- epic, big or extra noteworthy --NOT.

Lake was epic from all my boating friends.
Like I said, how many can be left to run the river.
I'm sure enough are in there but can 1 expect wave after wave ?

Ron down at Oak Orchard is saying the run is at least two weeks behind, it has been VERY warm this fall so far and will be this week, too.  As HT Says, lots of "silvers" in boxes all summer, so less left to run  the ditches.  You will find a few to fish too, RG, and maybe some bonus chromers that have eluded the ropers in the Ball Park area!

I would be travelling up there this week but I owe my wife a day trip or two to see the fall colors, and I hope to get away next week, so we better go "peeping" this week.  Plus I can check a couple of Finger Lakes Tribs on the ride!

L-13.
Our camp is off interstate 88 heading West. About 10 miles before Oneonta.
I love that ride out from my work and take the county route back home south of Albany. The foliage is starting to really POP.
The hills were yellow and green Friday then lots of reds and oranges today.

I think in 2 weeks it will be peak out there

Fish in the LFZ, a lot of fish.  Fished the DSR 4 days.  I've never seen so many steelhead this early in the year.  Hooked up with 5 steelhead Sunday, landing two.  There was no major run just a constant flow of kings coming up from the Joss hole in 2s and 3s.  Browns campsite was packed.  The DSR has fish throughout the entire run.  Tons of cars: 81 hole, Ellis Cove, Compactor hole.  Altmar was only at 50% curiously.

This is only a guess but I think after some comments in the past you made, you may be being screened by the site owners.
You could ask them .

Back to the LFZ, DEC Posted this today: The annual salmon egg take will be starting on October 9th at the Salmon River Fish Hatchery, Altmar. It typically begins around 9:30 AM and goes to 12:30 PM, weekdays only.

Says to me that a bunch of fish went though the LFZ, and they are unlikely to close it now.  I would think about heading down river now that the magic Columbus Day has passed, and looking for spawners to fish below, as there have been lots of reports of steelhead the last week.  Unless you prefer hooking up with Mack Trucks as opposed to Masserati's

Cool big bear. Nice when you find a mixed bag.
I'd have to think there are enough fish in the systems to keep most everyone happy.
Now that I'm bored, I'm unhappy thinking I should be fishing.
Sadly , not going to happen until at least mid November.
House winterizing duty the next 2 weekends, Halloween bash on Oct 26th then my hunting officially starts November 3rd Xbow.
While I will have 3 weeks off at that time I surly hope to spend a few weekdays in jacks secret spot..

Have fun folks and keep the spirit of fishing alive

Yeah Tuna, I have to give it a break for a couple weeks to get caught up at home.
But the fishing has been great.  Even got 3 of the 4 for a slam on saturday....of course the brown was only 15 inches....but that counts :)

Regarding a "slam", I always thought it was 5 different species:  3 salmon and 2 trout.  I caught 5 different species in one day in the church hole in the LFZ three years ago.  My Atlantic was a little 2 footer.

I talked with various people today that went at different times last week.
All had fish pictures to show me. Majority had 1 agenda, hook fish.
Those of which were given new names by myself.
All was not lost as the others went to catch fish and did.
The consensus was, yes, there are fish to catch in all shapes, colors and sizes.
I hope anyone that partakes can at least learn the difference and catches a fish of their dreams

A lot falling here today with the rain and the heatwave.  We both got the "Change of seasons" larangytis this week , so it will not be up north next week, and I told her that my calendar says next week is when I start fishing again (if I can recover from the hit on the head with the skillet!)
