I was watching the news last night and they showed the P.I. bay boiling up with about 4 foot waves and nasty white caps. Once the wind calms down it should firm up. It will be mucky for a while also. Looking at the footage the water looked like chocolate milk. I got my gear sitting in the bed of the truck just a waiting..

Why does the yacht club camera show ice?

The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me.

Ya Slayer, PI bay looks like its firming up nicely, i live right downtown so i drive by often.  I was thinking of going out to punch a hole today just to get the thickness.  I may still, if i do i will let you know.  Dont listen to these nay sayers about not more ice, the bay can freeze up in just a few days given the right temps, WHich by the way have been extremely low so far this week.  I hope to get out this weekend as long as there is no hot spells.

those nay-sayers are the ones who will say whatever they want so can think about their steelhead, steelhead are good but its time for a brake...by the way, the temps all week are supposed to be below freezing...looks good, keep your fingers crossed

The last time the bay froze over simply took a matter of about a week or so of cold temps.  That certainly can still happen.

Saw a guy on the ice in the basin at walnut about 10:00 am.
Wouldn't catch me on that thin ice.

Was on Misery Bay today 4inches of ice, and the fishing sucked. Had 6 lite bites and landed 1 6in gill. Not to many fish being caught,if any from other fisherman.

OK guys went down early this morning and drilled a coupleholes  off the marina dock we are talking like 3-3.5 inches but it is always thin there, down by PI first parking lot its four+ in most areas.  Ice fishermen I will see you out there saturday.  We got lucky because the freezing rain came and melted the snow on top of the ice.  CP i understand what you mean, how much could you possibly steelhead fish and not get bored or want to ice fish even for a couple weeks! anyways, ya I saw some people on misery although i think the fish are starting to work out of the shallows a little.  Well see what happens sat!

I hope you look at this first, this mornin i went to misery! no fish, there were tons of guys out and no bites.  The ice isnt bad around the second parking lot i would try that stay away from misery and horseshoe the fish are too spooky. Good ice though!

Howdy Ho Hard water enthusiasts. Today decided to mix things up. Went to PI marina. Maybe a dozen men in the morning and steady traffic all day. Final totals were 16 gills(most of them were BULLS) 1 perch six and a half inches, 1 golden shiner 6in (no s!#t) and a 25in chromer got that first thing, 9:30am. Another one caught right next to me(not as large). Won't be able to get out untill 11 or so.  Tight lines and warm shanties. stix

Ok tomorrow, Saturday is going to be a great day of fishing.  Tonight will be 13 degrees or so to thicken up the ice. 26 tomorrow low wind partly cloudy, i hope to see some limits.
