Spill in Mckean

I was driving today and notice some comotion near Elk Creek and the Country Fair in McKean.  There appeared to be a spill of some waste, and there were gentleman watching Lamson Run as to check for waste floating downstream(only 300-400 yards until Elk Creek.)  This worries me and I'm curious to see if anyone has any additional information about this.  There were also several environmental cleaning trucks and one labeled "Residual Waste"  I guess I can say it was bound to happen sooned or later.  Between the hundreds of people ripping the faces off of nine inch fish yesterday, and this, my weekend hasn't been a good one.

I certainly understand your concern for the spill and the effects it may have on Elk...but why did people going trout fishing make you emotional? Just curious....

I wouldn't call it emotional, it just seemed kinda depresing.  Like I said, my concern is Elk Creek.

OK...so not emotional....depressing (which by the way is one the the strongest emotions)...but I am curious why? I mean, you are an individual and you can certainly feel how you want to, and if you disagree with trout stocking for sport than I can respect that. And I completely agree that the spill is a terrible thing...but hopefully it will be/has been contained. So why is 1st day depressing? not bustin your rocks man...just wondering.

Ok.  It's hard to explain.  But there is something about watching people with surf rods and treble hooks sitting in lawn chairs tossing trout against the banks of Elk Creek that seems unsportsman-like.  I love trout fishing and stocking is great, I can only hope you understand my feelings toward what I saw yesterday, If not than there is nothing else I can say to change that.

I want this to be about Elk Creek.  Not my feelings toward yesterday.

OK...fair enough. But...and there's always a but.....I saw a few things as well...like a husband and wife that were about 70ish years old sitting in lawn chairs fishing together...for the 43rd year in a row. I also saw at least 25 father's or mother's fishing with 1, 2, or 3 of there little one's....now that's awesome. I saw the spot that my mother took me to fish 1st day 24 years ago, and thought about her, and how much I miss her. Golf...no matter what...there are going to be people for the rest of your life that do things "the wrong way"...in business, at a bar or restaurant, at church and even on the stream. Its sucks but its true. From your posts I have found that you are a little younger than many on this board, yet your maturity does not show it at all. I think that says a ton about your character. Here is my thought...dont let those that choose the wrong way ruin a good thing for you. You love to fish, that I know for sure. So go out and fish and enjoy what so many people dont "understand"...and dont let the other people bother you to the point that it could ruin your weekend.

The other option is to just punch the silly people on the stream...either way is fine with me!!!!(I am kidding man)

Is there a waste water treatment plant up that way? Sometimes with this type of weather their systems can be overwhelmed and they can overflow to the stream they discharge into. If so that would give the ****s to the lawn chair fishermen eating the faceless trout...that should cheer you up for the weekend

And by the way...my buddy works for the EPA...I called him and asked him about the spill...he called me back and said there was no report officially so it was at the worst a small spill with no threat to aquatic damage. If there was a threat, there would be a report.

I don't know what the problem was, but when I passed the area earlier this afternoon, there were several fire trucks and the Erie County Haz-Mat truck at the site and half or the gas pumps were roped off.  I was wondering if there was a problem with one of the fuel pumps.

    Mike,

Its not worth whining or being depressed over something that is totally beyond your control.  If it bothers you that much, maybe you could plan your vacation for the first week of trout season and by the time you get back, things will be all back to normal for you.  You can control that much!

As far as the spill is concerned, I hope it gets resolved.

Did anyone see the news this evening?  I did not see any TV film crews when I went by, but that does not mean they weren't there.  I should say when I went by, no one seemed to be in much of a hurry to clear out the area.  There were people in the store and at the other gas pumps buying gas, so it must not have been a super critical situation, or a very dangerous one.

BTW - Tippy Toe there is a waste water treatment plant in McKean.
