It's that time of year. Pulled the Daisy out of hibernation. Mechanically seems all good. 5 small boats in creek today for bait.
Their definitely around. I'll probably scout this week with jboat.
Splashdown on 4-20 at marina.
Fun stuff ahead.

r3g3 They are tearing down the bridge abutments. Time will tell what impact, if any, it has on that stretch of water.  I know for some unknown reason the upper trestle has not fished well recently.  Some guides have said the trough has gradually filled in making it less productive.

I never fish it and park at T South only to access the areas of lower vines well above on foot but its always been a great circus show to stand above and watch,,
OH well another memory of the past i guess,
The cobble bottoms up above often change from season to season --guess some coulda moved down and filled in,
Cant see changing things to a man made eutopia that will also change again in time

I can't say the reasoning but have 2 guesses that seems logical.
1. Its still part of the LO settlement and restoration project started years ago with I believe the LFZ. Along with lots of grant money.. NYS has be dishing out more than we can handle as taxpayers.
2. Which I doubt here, it's a TU funded project ( again grant money) to tear down unnecessary dams and do stream restoration projects.
Seeing this isn't an actual dam, I'm leaning towards project #1

As for #2.
TU has taken down dams built in the 19th century on streams for logging purposes back then but remained until recently .
I know some of the rivers/ streams have changed dramatically since they started this.
Once nice holding pools for trout have become death trap sandbars and lots of anchors ice.

Had one of those 'friends of" people whos organization pretty much runs a huge wooded area near me where my favorite local trout stream runs through,,They controll about a mile or more of the river.
She told me one day they were going to go in and cut out the overhanging brush and downed trees across the river so it could 'run free again'.
I went nuts an asked when the run free time ever was with the exception of some peoples minds
Then I sat on a log and had  a long talk about the benefits of COVER and pools created by downed trees and brush to the fish and wildlife.
She was the Pres of the club and they never did that project

We ended up with 7 on the boat with 2 in the keep slot.
Best part of being at my marina it having a fantastic restaurant with a famous chef to prepare our catch for dinner.

First day of Turkey
SILENT
in mid 30 damp foggy AM
after an hour hopped on the box with a loud cackle followed a bit later by some soft purrs
Longbeard came right in from a couple of hundred yards -out of the woods and across a field
Hadn't known he was there but figured they were around someplace and needed some encouragement   lol
LOVE turkey hunting as its so interactive

Got in my spot real early today-FOG FOG FOG--heavy too couldnt see 30 yards---Then my seat broke while I
sat on it  OUCH--cold snaps came through and a few times I could see my breath like on a Winters day.
Gave it 2 hours--not a gobble- GOT OUT
Even the crows didnt come by  and Geese from the neighbors pond didnt move honking away which often gets a gobble

Good deal on the Bird Trev. Our season starts on Monday but I'll have no time until the end of may.
Decided to start my 2 week vacation a day early with all the rain that's expected.
Good choice as they were chewing.
Fun stuff

Went for Trout this pm in  a RESERVOIR FED stream- could see fish but they were spooky as all heck in VERY low waters.-Seems they are holding water in the /res due to drought conditions earlier.

Great fish Rich keep them coming looks like a good season so far.

Went to the stream today after a nights rain- more water- limit of trout

No Turkey this AM
Did get a horse though
One came walking in from a nearby farm-
took it back and put it in the coral it had escaped
no ropes -it came right with me
no one was there-
Could they have been horse hunting in Turkey season ?

Sorry fishusa 's.
I got a new phone on 4-30. I have no idea how to work the new stuff.
This is my old phone that's been in my dresser drawer since then.
I've also be living on my boat and just returned for a little while.
Believe me, there's been FUN STUFF happening and a familiar face. We've caught many of these things called striped bass.
Once the ride is over, I'll figure out how to turn the news back on.
Hopefully everyone is doing well
Peace and tuna

Well I finally got back in with the new phone. What a PIA getting a new phone.
Anyway, we've been putting a smackdown on the Daisy. There's so many pictures, I couldn't possibly share them all. My job was to be captain and put fish in the hands of others and share in the smiles. All fish ( and so many more) are from my boat.
Only got 1 more week left before I pull the boat and start other adventures.
Peace and tuna.

Test..
I'm trying to get back on with the new phone but it's not working out, even as a new signup = hot tuna 1.
Maybe after 20 years on this forum, seeing people come and go it might be a sign it's my time.
I'm still able to use the old phone but that's not going to work for long.
If it's to happen I disappear, before I leave, I will find a way to upload some memories of all the fun stuff I've had over the years with fishusa members.
As I said, I had a visitor to my playground a week ago. Somehow Andrew always gets big fish or bust. This was no exception.
I don't remember weight but length was well over 40"
It certainly was fun stuff having him aboard the Daisy mae for 4 days.
Peace and tuna

We will be stomping the woods at deer camp next weekend. Maybe stumble on a turkey. Our regulations only allow hunting until noon to protect nesting birds.

What an incredible 2023 season. From the first day on 4-21 until today 5-21, we put fish on the deck. Some very large. Andrew still holds the Daisy record from last season.
Whew , what a great ride of fun stuff.

There's a lot of fun stuff about to happen.
Heading to deer camp with family and Atvs. It's just a place in the woods. We'll probably do a little turkey hunting, stet up our wifi trail cameras, lots of ATV riding and late nights by the fire.
As I said, the boat is on dry land. It's getting a good going through on bellows and all drive unit to be full sail next season.
Until next adventure.
Everyone have a great weekend and thanks to all that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom

There's no place like home.
Fantastic weather at deer camp. Put miles on the Atvs, used up a lot of different ammunition and restocked the wood pile.
Seen 1 turkey yesterday but it was a hen. Gonna put up 6 trail cameras and start watching the antlers grow throughout the summer.
Fun stuff indeed.
