This lake gets crushed regardless of the info. Take a look at the guys that bs on these threads. Hit just about any up with a PM and you'll get some good info. Putting that info on the open forum is just asking to get crowded out.

I like fishin' alone, that's why I posted some good places for Byrds/Eyes. I can come up with some more purdy quick. Right now with the top water bite at 3:00 am 'till dawn not many out to contend with....

Lake was CROWDED today.  Like crazy crowded.  Sitting here with my sunburn, because I'm a moron and didn't wear my hat today.

Not many people willing to tough out (or show up for) a 3am bite regardless of the scouting reports.  And you'd have to promise me endless birds and eyes to get me down the other end of the lake anyway.  But I'm on team Pork here.  My report from today is: snapping turtles chewing back in the fingers.  :)

Do any of the boat launches have night time lighting for putting in or taking out after dark?

Made it to 528 launch around 3:30, wasn't overly crowded at that point. Fished till about 8, mainly a shake down for my new to me boat and try out new waters. Had 6 keeper crappie and 1 nice perch, and lots of medium to dink bluegills. We released them all. Checked out some coves for bass, didn't seem many were on beds yet, or least where I was.

The 422 launch (Bear Run) has a somewhat adequate street light near the docks.  Useful enough to help you unpack and cover the boat when you pull out after fishing.  I haven't launched after dark, can't speak on that.  Pretty sure the 528 launch has some lights but that's not my side of the lake.

I think they all have some sort of light, but can't say that for a fact.  I never have issues launching at night.  Well...  It isn't the most fun part of the trip, but with head lamps it isn't too bad.  Backing into my boat storage in the dark and tired, usually takes about 5 tries, and a little profanity.  Launching and pulling are definitely much easier.

Spent quite a few hours looking for the stripers over the weekend , Well looks like Crappyfisher  has the hot spot. Seeing I did not find any in my side of the lake.  As far as lights for night time launching and takeout the bear run and the 528 has them right now. But the rest should have somewhat of lighting THIS WEEKEND and That will mean WAY TO MANY night fishermen/cast net fishermen.  Just can't take listening to them throwing cast nets  and climbing up my ****. I guess they don't understand the fact that you can cast  lures between 40-50 yards, Well until they hear my lure smacking there boat LOL

Thanks for the info everyone.  I typically fish Yellowcreek and Keystone Power Dam since they are local but wanted to venture up to Arthur more this year and prefer early mornings or late evenings so having a light at the launch helps.  I have always put in at Bear Run to date so if it has a light(hadn't noticed the couple times I went there) will probably just go there.  One thing I liked about Arthur is lack of crowds and boats on top of each other like you see at Yellowcreek, and sometimes at KPD.  Maybe I just went at the less popular times but will see.

Not targeting any species specifically.  More about being on the water than anything though I have had a growing interest to throw a line while out there(have yet to catch a bass if that tells you anything).

The 528 launch has one street light beside the building that goes on every night but you really need extra lights mounted on you tow vehicle. I use a dash switch and a spot light mounted on the back of my pickup

Thanks!  I am only launching a kayak but a street light greatly assists with unloading/loading.  Always have a headlamp with me as well.  Hoping to go out late one night this weekend and it is looking like Sunday night.  Just need to decide where to put in.

Muddy creek is on the 528 side of the lake.  There's a launch at the 528 bridge, and there's a sketchy good_luck_son launch a bit further back in that you will almost certainly get sodomized by a bear or two using.  "How deep" is a terribly vague question.  The lake varies from 30+ to "bluegill" deep.  The farther back an arm or finger you go the shallower it will be.  Very generally speaking, the fingers in that area are shallow as hell and so thick with weeds you can walk across them.  Like "I'm not sure we're getting back out of here, wish this was an airboat" thick.  Maybe even "the fish I hooked swam into the weeds so I just hucked my pole overboard and went home" thick.  Oh, and muddy.  Muddy creek wasn't named "muddy" because of its clean running pebble strewn bottom.

Enjoy!

I've always struck out on Muddy Creek.  I've tried to fish it but the weeds just seem impossible to deal with.  Maybe its just an early season spot before the weeds set?

Everybody says it's a good spot.  I just leave it to the locals in the know.

Re: Arthur 2017/07/07 11:17:18 (permalink)
I've never had a good trip down there.  Lake knowledge is so key... gotta know what spots hold fish at what time of year.  I could mark dozens of spots on the 422 side of the map off the top of my head.  Tell you the cover, where to find which fish in which season, tell you what times I've done best there.  Certain deep weeds that only produce once the afternoon sun heats them up.  That sort of thing.  But 528 side I'm lucky to not get the boat stuck in mud.  :)

I'd say the sides are probably identical in overall production if you take the individual fisherman out of the equation.

Strange night Saturday.  Panfish were rabid but there was zero bass bite--even at dusk.  Catfish turned on as usual between 9 and 11PM.  Lot's of striper fisherman out but I didn't see much alewife activity.  I was, however, off the water at 11PM so things could have picked up later.

Hit Arthur up late afternoon yesterday. Gorgeous afternoon--sunny but cool. Did alright on the largemouths deep in the lily pads chucking frogs. Wipers have eluded me this season--can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Had another double catfish hookup when they turned on. Caught all I wanted before dark!

Also hooked into what must have been a methuselah of a snapping turtle. Couldn't budge him off the bottom with thirty lb braid. Kind of ruins swimming for me knowing that monster is out there!

Sort of like this?  Head was the size of a softball.  I've caught some big snappers and this one was a beast.  My buddy got him in on 4lb test.  Around 10 this morning.
