It's been raining balls in Zelie all day.  I don't think today will be your day.  Fishing was very slow last night.

Cold front tomorrow plus rain all week.  Not good times for Arthur.  Looks like those 'eyes will be safe for an extra week.

I assume there is not a large (if any) population of Smallmouths in Arthur?

I've caught a few. Seem to be around bluegill if I recall correctly. Downed trees and overhangs mostly.

They're in there.  I've caught some nice ones, as well as some dinks.  There aren't a ton in the lake.  Many more large mouths.  I've got most of my small mouths near rocks.  I'd have to imagine they are native to Muddy Creek that feeds the lake.  They are a nice surprise.  I would imagine Arthur would be rather frustrating targeting them.  I've found that to be the case targeting just about any species on that lake...

Cool thanks. Finally got a boat big enough for Arthur, so will be trying out that lake more and more this year and years to come hopefully

Have never caught a smallie in Arthur in hundreds of hours over the years.  Not a bass fisherman for what that's worth, and I don't often fish the 528 end (muddy creek arm).

Smallies are all over, not large in size, but for the lake they are. Caught them all over, nice surprise and sometimes had to do a double or triple take to make it was what it is. Biggest we ever caught was in the 15-16" range, though not many. It was always by mistake too....

Yea I was thinking that muddy creek held smallies before impoundment. Looking at the PFBC biology reports, they don't seem to be a ton of them, but least present.

I don't plan on that lake being a focus of smallmouths, but always like to catch em somewhere new. I want to try some new techniques, so figured used Arthur as testing grounds.

PFBC habitat division has a good map of all the rock rubbles and other structures like they have added to the lake.

'wives are out 24/7/365 on Arthur.  They aren't big yet, I'd say 3 inch average on the ones we caught last trip.  If you are asking about them spawning you're a bit early.  Another month or two.

Weather report changed (again).  Looks like you'd get a trip in today if you don't mind low 50s.  This is a skip week for me.

What should I use, what time should I be there, what size hook.  Location is not specific enough, I need exact coordinates.

Actually, just pick me up and we will go in your boat.  I like freshly smoked Virginia ham sandwiches for lunch and hazelnut creamer in my Starbucks in the morning.  I can't help with gas either--I'm broke!

Last night just before dark my boys and I did very well on channel cats and my son's friend got a 36" pike on cut bait.

Today was very slow - no school so we fished several hours in different places around the lake this afternoon. One channel cat, one dink perch and some bluegills. Even the bluegill bite was slow - by this time in May my youngest is usually crankin em in one after another.

You know it's slow when on a Friday evening in May there are only a handful of boat trailers at the 528 launch and hardly anybody from the bridge to the launch.

Just got back. It was a really nice day--cool but sunny. Wind was a little bit of an issue. Water temp was 60 degrees and very few boats out.

Caught lots of little bass and bluegill. Didn't see hide nor hair of a wiper or alewife. The channels turned on right at dusk and boy were they hungry! Even had a double hookup and things got real busy on the BeagleCraft. Got off the water around 10PM.

Thought I had a great night until I read about rsquared's 36" pike. Have to say I'm a little jealous!

Night all.

Good read Beagle and trust me, you aren't the only one with a 36" Pike on thier, wish it was me, list.

Gonna be seeing some waters of Arthur on Wednesday, but only on a fly-by, as I travel to Wexford.

Hope to fish the lake soon. I know a great guide who will put me on some fish. Right Sam?

'Bout 5 years ago my now 13 year old son caught 2 pike while we had cat bait out on the bottom. One ate a chunk of hot dog!

So we weren't too surprised to see a pike on the end of his buddy's line with cut bluegill out for cats.

My son carefully grabbed the fish for his friend and got it all the way out of the water. As his pal was reeling up the slack and walking towards it to pick it up for the hero shot, the pike flopped and somehow sliced his 65# braid with its teeth and waved goodbye. They were so jacked to not get a pic of that fish. So much so that they had a hard time being excited that he caught such a great fish. But in this day and age of "pics or it didn't happen," his buddy thought nobody would believe him.

Not so Sam, there's far more to fishing than catching some stupid fish.

As they say in the old country....... "A bad day of fishing beats a good day at work"!

Even if, one is retired! [snicker]

Has been purdy darn good so far this week. 3:00 am 'till  5:30 am. atleast one place on the lake. Where old Boy Scout Jamboree was held yrs. ago is a good place to try, think Spoonchucker liked that spot.

Up M/C was good in April, better off tryin' near Neelys Point or the old removed handicapped pier if after Byrds & Eyes from here on out. Most use the Long-A Bomber in blue/prisim but a lot ov lures & colors produce. Don't PM me there is nothing left to hide about this lake for the past 20++++ yrs  Go catch a bunch they taste good from the grill.

I joined this forum to share fishing reports and to get some general information on the area waterways. Im really surprised at the amount of guys that want specific details on spots and where to go. I mean half the battle is finding them, in my opinion its fine to share what was biting and what they were hitting on and even giving a general location/depth the fish were hitting at but thats as far as ill go
