It is so windy at my house I can only imagine how the lake has been.  If you are out on a boat kudos to you sir.  My patience doesn't allow it.  I've been eyeballing the weather for a Friday trip but so far it has only been disappointment.  My motors PROBABLY run.  Worst case, I'll invite BTDT and he can row.  :D

You're on Sam.... 'cept I'll bring my boat and a tow rope. 😝

Had the FishHawk wet couple times this "pre-catching" season.

Stupid... pre-catching fish, and no I didn't try worms or minnows. I can't deal with those tiny little voices in my head, as I impale hooks into those tiny little bodies.

No wonder they squiggle so! 😋

Good to see you're back, hope all has been well.

The louder the minnows scream the faster the fish show up to eat them.  I can't apologize for species that far down on the food chain.  I don't begrudge you the artificials; I just can't catch fish with them.  And I feel bad that I don't move my boat around so I only fish with appropriately lazy fishermen who believe that anchoring is fantastic.  :)

We are overdue for a payback trip this spring.  As soon as I do a test run we'll get our schedules ironed out.  Hopefully Pork leaves a few in the lake for us.

OHHHhhh the voices... I hear dead fishys'.

Ha haa buddy, I look forward to seeing you again. Good times and remember, boots keep your feet dry. But then again, so does the convenience of docks.

I was looking at Saturday myself.  Mid 60s and low wind (theoretically).  My fishing buddy is out of town though and my old lady thinks 80 is chilly.  SIGH.

Not much happening where I fished with my boys this evening. Just a couple small gills. Still some skim ice on some shallow, wind protected areas we saw. Water was very cold.

low wind (theoretically).

Never trust wind predictions for Arthur.  With how warm Saturday is supposed to be, you can be assured, 528 will be a wind tunnel.  Those SW or S winds, even if calling for 5mph, will be 10-15.  Kicking up the radiant heat from the lake, the temp will be more like 40's than 60's.
Hopefully making it out too.  I have a bunch of work on the boat that needs done this weekend first.  Could be an hour, then fish.  Could be all day and push my opening day out a bit.

I knew Pork would bring me down.  :)  Agree totally, for a smaller lake Arthur makes crazy weather like Erie.

Green Day concert on Saturday.  Figures, first best day of the year and I'm booked.

I haven't solo launched or retrieved this boat yet though I suspect I'd be able to with a bit of fiddling.  Anchoring might be difficult though... front anchor 18' from the rear give or take.  Those are the only two reasons I let my wife on the boat!

I anchor from the back, basically in shallow water and not during a tornado! My father's up front (81yrs old), don't want him pulilng that 10# anchor full of silt in all day.

"I had" a fishing buddy that I put charge of anchor untill he dropped it on my 8'6" trolling rods! I just shake my head at times...

Re: Arthur 2017/03/27 12:01:59 (permalink)
Saturday - worked on boat for a while.  Longer than I wanted to.  Took it out for a spin.  Motor seems to run well after work, although took a while to turn over and gave me a scare.  Deep water is full of bait fish schools and fish under them, that didn't want anything I was trying to get to them.  Although, those bait fish clouds are now in color on my boat, instead of black and white...  Limited on time, we didn't hit up the depths for as long as we should have.  Went back into some shallow weedy areas to save from a skunk.  A bunch of gills, a perch and a large mouth came out and played.  Something was in there chasing the gills around for 1/2 hour or so, which was fun to watch.  All and all, not a horrible start to the season.  A nice day to get out.  Hopefully a few more soon enough.

I caught some nice stripers last year trolling taildancers in open water. That tight wobble is deadly when water temperatures are cold. I think it's a bit early for that tho. Walleye is out as well. Thinking about hitting some Bays out perhaps next weekend a few ziplock bags of gills would be nice.

The gills seemed to turn on a little before dusk for us.  Some were decent size.  They were just nipping the large jigs, had to go micro.  Gulp fish fry were working well.

Porktown, if you want gills inside the cat tail island at the head of the bay P. I.   5 fow minnows or a jig mags,or wax worm. It's cast and crank, easy if you want 50. There big 8"-9" inches. A lot of small Perch in there to and no wind at all. Monday went in there for about 25 minutes to take a break from the wind. We caught several fish,I took 7 big gills home, but wanted to resume my quest for 30 perch and head back out in front. Mission accomplished but it took a long time to do.lol

I haven't ventured that far north with my boat.  I am kind of chicken...  I usually do well enough at Arthur to trailer it that far.  That, and never seem to get more than a few hours to get out.  PI is about 3 hours each way (after picking up my boat).

My magic number 075, is refusing to hit on the PA Lottery Pick 3!!!  2 more days left until this HS baseball booster card I bought, turns useless!

I couldn't figure out how to get the temp to show on my new sonar.  I think it was due to being in GPS split screen mode.  I'm not sure when I'll get on the lake again to figure it out.

was out the other sunday to break in the new motor.  took a nice ride.  lots of people fishing up muddy crick.  two guys were anchored and whackin pune crappies left and right.  water was very cold.

did see some dead fish, went by a few of them, looked like a big shad.  possible?  saw about a dozen of them between crescent bay and muddy creek.  not alarming by any means, but they were decent sized shad looking fish.

If they were bigger than 8 or 9 inches they were gizzard shad.  Some of those are lunkers.  Both gizzards and alewives have die off at certain times, no biggie.
