I started out midriver and did not see much I fished worms and flies for a few hours and got a few chubs lost a   medium brown. I hooked one king. I then went to the LFZ and that's where the Shartshow was.  I have seen behavior like this in the river, but never there.  Fishing with mono, rubber eggs and blatant snagging. One guy even was throwing rocks at the fish to get them to move and fishing above the Wire. 7/8 guys.  I blew up. One guy came up to me and screamed at me telling me I was acting like a child. I told him children throw rocks at things and he left.  Two guys were clueless and asked me why I was mad , I proceeded to tell them that there were special regulations here and they thought as long as try had a fly rod they were good. I proceeded to give them flies and she them the correct set up, they were thankful. They said Fat Nancs told them all's they needed was a fly rod..........      The 3 to 4 worse offenders just stayed down there and kept ripping. I told the two I just helped I was calling the DEC as soon as my phone had service.  I left and had to wait until Pulaski until I got service called and said my piece. They said someone would look into it. I ate lunch at the town pool ,   Saw one bright Coho caught at TP in 30 minutes. Ran omen errands and went back to the Zone and there was only one guy left fishing.   I just left.    I don't know,  maybe I over reacted , but throwing rocks.  I go there to get away from that crap. If you pretend to fish I will tolerate you.  PS the fish are there but they are slowing and starting to show their age.  I visited the hatchery , but they were not collecting eggs.  It seems they did collect TWT though. 10/13-17

S*** , Clint. That's the extreme downside of the river. My blood pressure would have gone over 200 . Throwing rocks. Unbelievable.  Hope the azzhats  blow away soon with some cold weather.

I also saw 4 dead browns in my travels. They ranged 3 to 5 inches long.

Here are a few from today it was a good day. All were Cookie cutter. 7  to the net.

My story from today. Fished from 10 till 5 in an few spots, but ended up on my favorite rock . Fly of the day was anything pink  including sucker spawn, eggs
and steelhead hammers.  The little green nymph was good too.  All the fish I caught were  dark and fought like ''winter '' fish.  Most places that usually held fish produced if you worked as seen by those around me.  Best day I have ad in a while. Noon to 2pm was the best time. I fished with 2 very nice guys and we netted each others fish (hence the reason I actually landed them ). I Gave them the name of the forum and I hope they visit. Today was a day that I actually have nothing to rant about other than the new trees that are down ad around making traversing a little more difficult.

Fished midriver for a few hours with nothing. Went upstream and was lucky enough to go in at exactly the right time. Got my  rock. 10 till 11 I had 4 on and 2 in the net, no bad.  Not even one bite or nibble after that. There were a few on here or there, but nothing for me.  So home to take a nap I went. All fish came on a little green nymph.

Nice job Clint ! So jealous of the 2 hr jaunt then a nap at home.
I'm pretty much 2hrs away from most any outdoors adventures I take on so x2 for driving involved, I tend to get stuck in any elements that get thrown at me.
While I'm so sick of handling deer right now, somehow I convinced myself to give the woods another venture this Saturday and Sunday with my son.
Honestly, I'm wishin I was fishin. It seems pretty good on the tribs. Someday, I will come closer with the river.

Hang tight up there, the old man winter is getting ready to blow

Well due to my insomnia I was up at 0330 and 3 cups of coffee awake. I decided to go up knowing I would have to sit, but wanting my spot. I took n umbrella a book and a chair. The drive up was nerve wracking as it was snowing at my house and I was nervous that someone would beat me there. Snow stopped at the high school and when I drove the rest of the way my tracks were the only ones all the way there. I brought extra stuff so it took me two trips down.  So I sat and read my book in 30ish degree temps with an on and off snow, not that unpleasant at all. After an hour at 0530 3 guys Come in and were disappointed I was there. They went above me in the fast water.   a few guys trickled in on the other side and that side had 10 or so guys.  I started fishing at 0700 and by 0704 I had one in the net and by 0800 had 4 others on. There were a few hook ups around me too.  After that it was like a switch was thrown and only 1 fish on by a guy across in the next   2 hours. At around 930-1000 it started to snow and I caught a small COHO and that was the last fish I saw hooked when I left at 1100. Many others had gone by that time too. Left in a storm and drove out of it. 1 god hour was all I got, but it was better then nothing. Will post a few pics later after my nap

It was not bust by my means, but a waste of sorts. I had the whole side to myself until 0800 and there were only 2 others on the other side. Never more than a handful of people. It was by far the most productive spot yielding about 12 fish on by 1300. All but 1 came before 1000. Of the fish on there were 3 in the net. 3 were probably foul hooked, but I never found out as I really don't chase them. It was just a pick, no specific pattern or size. I did find a piece of pink chenille in the bottom of my bag and use some 4# test to secure it to a hook and by gosh got a male to chomp it, LOL.  As usual there is usually one downer per trip, there were three guys above me and they were spread out. They (he in particular) would not allow two guys to share one spot when there was easily enough room. He kept on saying ''this stretch only fishes 3''. Evidently he has not fished in November or December.  The two kids who were really clueless then proceeded to fish above the wire for an hour (hooking up multiple times ), when someone finally went up and told them they were indeed Clueless as to what the wire was.

So today I got to mid river at 0800. Fish were scattered here and there and in the deeper holes there were hook ups. Not alot of real movement though. I fished a few spots with no takers. I saw one nice steelhead taken (not caught if you know what I mean).  I fished a few spots mid river and then went to the LFZ it was space there, but the decreased pressure meant fish that were not scared for their lives. I managed two good hits, both were ho's. The increased water has started the pillaging in the smaller water.

Here is my single report after having a week off. It's sad but had to catch up on outdoor stuff. I got up at the time most folks are just settling down after a long night at the bar. Arrived and got settled in for the wait and forgot my stool and earphones so it w's the Howard Stern show and music for all. Yep me and the squirrel. Of course it started to rain so it was a long wait. As the usual no one came in until 0530 (for both sides mind you), but if I wait until 0500 to come in there is always the one guy when gets there before me. River seemed little high I am guessing. 750 plus. It never got real busy there were only 12 people total as far as I could see on both sides at  it's  busiest.  Fishing was slow as slow with not even a touch for anyone until 0800. All my hook UPS come between 0900 and 1000 all on pink hammer and all hit and ran. They were not "'hot'' fish , but none were cookie cutter size all felt 10 to 12# range. I left at noon and left 1 person there. 12 people throughout the am and 10 hookups seen,  4 by me 4 up under pines by a guy and 1each for the guys accross. Slow day if not for that pod that seemed to come through from 9-10 for me, nada outside of that.  The guy under the pines picked at them  but he had a pretty violent hook set at the slightest twitch of his float.
Had a 3 inch branch fall hit and hit very close  right as I was bringing a fish in. I heard the snap and thought my rod broke. As it broke I startled and gave slack and I broke off. The others although longish fights too did not get closet to shore.  I left at noon not seeing a fish hooked for 2 hours.

12/14/18 -12/15/18
Friday went up at 0330 to secure my spot  and someone beat me there. Turned around and went back home was back in bed by 0400 and slept in until 0630 and went bark up by 0700. Probably should have stayed  fished the other side but sour grapes and I lucked out. First thing I noticed was about 15 guys on the north side. Seems they were shooting a video for something or another. They had all the goodies. Underwater camera, Professional video equipment etc. . They were a good crew, handled the fish well and seemed like they had a god time. I heard ''Fly lords '' more than once. It was packed on that shore to say the least  Now for the fishing. Fished several spots on the south side.   I did fair averaged about 2 fish an hour on and landed a few. Fished 4 hours feet got cold and went home. Stone flies were the best.  Saturday my busy who I never see  come up. He has the diabetes so his feet get cold. I decided to secure the spot where we could stand out of the water. Got up there at 0230 and beat him by half hour. Like me he left when he could not fin there. From 0300 till 0430 3   others came and left. Most went across they way. I listen to Stern. Podcasts and even read. Its nice alone time. No fish hooked until 0730 and then it opened up. There were several times 4 people were hooked up at once.  I landed 3 fish in 45 minutes and then my buddy got there at 0745. From then on it was a cursed day. One of us would hook up and as soon as the net was touched the fish would pop off. The fishing was great in half our spurts and very good until about 1300. It slowed o just good. The WHOLE area produced some fish which is more indicative of fall fishing other than winter. Many of these fish were BRIGHT AND HOT. I was down to the backing more than once. It was a top 5 day I think. The other bad was I think the high water brought the fish but also bought a nice tree  or moved a rock in front of where I fish. You could physically see something new there. The fish liked it and sat behind it, but it ate flies like a fat man in a doughnut factory. Between me and my friend (he lost a bit more than me LOL) we lost 50 flies. Many times it was a fish or a snag on every cast. LOL it was worth every fly. I even used the old ugly ones I tied that just didn't turn out right ne they seemed to work the best LOL. I really purged my box, but it is good to start new. I went to All Seasons and bought $50 in hooks Thursday so all is good. Best flies were stones and eggs of all colors. Sucker spawn got nothing, nymphs did ok, but not great. A long day with a good friend and met a nice guy named Larry. I knew I cursed the day because also I also brought my nicer camera. We only landed 1 fish after my friend got there a mid teens hen and it flopped out before the picture. Many many battles ended in despair right in front of the net. Yep Top 5 day. LOL.  Long post good times ane really nothing to complain about per my usual.

Nice going Clint. I'm not sure if I'm up to the o'dark 30 stuff anymore so leave me some sloppy seconds.
As for your "spot" , it's always been a fly eater and I like the bobber gig along that shore, maybe not as many bites but surely less hardware and line in the river bottom, tree/ rock. Hence I like the north bank better for fishing.
Lastly, take care of ailment. . You know better than me but it seems the wrist effects the elbow. I had it bad before myself.
2 things that kept me fishing through it was
1. A wrist brace
2. A spey rod.

2 handed casting was much easier .
I recouped and never used the spey again. It's sat in a case for years.
Good luck

Thanks guys it was a god day. Rich I'm willing to give up the flies to keep out of the water, it's the difference from fishing all day or a few hours. I can't disagree that the north shore fishes better in a lot of aspects, especially in water under 750. If its just me I can usually limit the consumption to a dozen during the day. I will see about a MD next week as I cant lift a glass without discomfort.
